Yeah, for some reason I put $5.00 in November 2018 at .0029, when I first opened my Robinhood account. Obviously kicking myself for not putting more but, oh well, I never expected it to do anything at that point. I threw a chunk in earlier this year and got in at the right time. Kinda figured today would be a bust. Only regret is buying more last week a bit higher than I really wanted to but I’m still happy (and quite frankly, shocked) with the profit thus far. And it’s fun to see the Tweets and stuff

Oh yeah that's pretty spiffy then. So you got like 1725ish coins? So $5 -> ~$570? Or am I calculating that wrong? Pretty insane

Yeah, just about 1,700 coins at the .0029 and a total of a little over 32,000 coins that I’ve bought this year. Spiffy, indeed

i like Power Ball tickets. It makes me feel like a grown up to go to the store counter and ask for a ticket with my lucky numbers.

Monty will place baseballs side by side in a line, and extended this line from Los Angeles to NYC, then back again, and again to NYC, and back to LA again, and then one more time to NYC. This will create a line of baseballs that crosses the United States five times. I will put a tiny mark on the winning baseball. Your job is to drive along the line of baseballs and select the winning ball! You can only choose one.

(Your odds of selecting the winning ball are nearly identical to your odds of matching all of the numbers in Powerball.)

that sounds like fun. how do i sign up for that!

i had an uncle that for many years kept track of every power ball drawing. Then he would play the numbers that were picked most often... i tried to explain the flaw in that strategy but he told me I was a "know it all" and that I was too young to know how the world really worked.

Now he is a Trump supporter

My dad puts 20% of his earnings into pull tabs, so I can see why it would make you feel that way

Question

Dogecoin, from a complete outsider's perspective, seems like...

The engine of capitalism ensures that the very wealthy get wealthier and the common folk stay struggling or suffer financial ruin, yeah?

But it's, you know, it's usually pretty indirect, the billionaires aren't reaching under your mattress and grabbing wads of cash

But in this case, trillionaire Musk made one tweet and bankrupted countless people, directly

I mean, do I have this right? I have seen a lot of compelling arguments that crypto is a) potentially very useful and b) currently a scam in almost every way it's being used

But I also know very, very little about it

At this point the entire crypto market is moved by whales who manipulate prices to get regular people to become bag holders or mindless supporters. It’s a casino where you may get rich or end up losing a few bucks.

I sold all my crypto a year or two ago and I’ve never been happier. Nobody reads any white papers and 99.999% of the coins out there are trash with no use case. If the market were rational, there would be no Bitcoin or LiteCoin and people would use things that have a developer base and future like Ether.

People are entering the market with no idea what they’re buying, which is great for whales. If you have no interest in writing smart contracts or supporting developers with good ideas, stay out of the casino.

Seeing people with no clue what they’re buying is a major signal to sell and never look back.

Unhappy

Thank u

The entirety of my understanding re: investments: In late 1997, when Steve Jobs returned to Apple, my dad asked me if I wanted to buy any Apple stock. I had just graduated high school and was like, "LOL, what is that, no." I knew Apple was going to do well — this was the height of the Apple vs Microsoft days, and I had very strong opinions about it — I just didn't understand the stock market at all and it felt like an overwhelming thing to get into, even in that small a way. And that's why I don't have a Scrooge McDuck room today.

Yeah, it's a casino. I'm no expert but all it takes is a couple days reading /r/wallstreetbets to know many people are treating crypto and the stock market this way. And they often jump on a bandwagon early enough to make some money and think they are geniuses only to jump on another bandwagon and lose it all.

Not that I think there's anything necessarily wrong with buying -coins like ppl in this thread have done (and I considered). But thinking it's more than a casino is probably not conducive to actually making money.

Nice! The majority of them are in at an average cost of .06. I put in about $2,300 or so and my equity is about 8k. Not too shabby!

And I’m with you, I haven’t bought anymore in quite a while. Just appreciating what I have

Have you bought into any other crypto?
