Sliced on some toast with a spot of onion chutney, lovely stuff.

Other cheese brands are available.

I specifically came here today to make a Peanut Jimmy deathwatch thread, and that was taken from me. One final letdown related to ol JC.

My favorite is President Ho Chi Minh. He made JFK, LBJ, and Nixon look like chumps.

Thumbs up

Carter seems like a genuinely good dude, and a good politician, but I feel like he genuinely wanted to help the country out first and foremost instead of, like, amassing power. So of course he was massively unpopular. Also, devoting his life to service after his term instead of like going on speaking tours or focusing on his library or something: That's some good shit right there.

I don't know, maybe he has a history of getting grabby with women at Habitat for Humanity, I'm not paying that much attention.

At any rate, I think I gotta hand "favorite" to JFK, if only for choosing to go out on top in spectacular fashion by making his own head explode.

Who was the one who died like a month after taking office? Maybe him, since he probably didn't have time to screw up yet, besides dying on the job.

Any of the ones where I can remember their name (probably 30 of them) are Not Good.

Update: I took a quiz and got 37/46, with no misses in the last 100 years. There were a few gaps in the middle but I did better than I expected. I did miss the guy that died a month in, though.

McKinley, he got shot in Buffalo a month after inauguration and then died as a result of gross mismanagement by his personal doctor. maybe they didn't know any better. he probably would've been an asshole anyway

in grade school as a lesson on mnemonic devices, we learned the last names of the first 42 (at the time) presidents in chronological order. i still remember them but i have to start from the beginning every time, hard to pick it up mid-way through

I think it was William Henry Harrison who got pneumonia during his inauguration or something and kicked it 2 weeks later

I know all 50 states in alphabetical order because of some elementary school choir song. Still in my head 25+ years later.

Also, I didn't realize there were 2 presidents that died quickly after taking office. I was thinking of the pneumonia one, but the one that got shot sounds like a more interesting story. I'll remember both now!

I don’t know if McKinley was maybe shot right after re-election but he definitely did not die within the first year of his presidency

Cool

Essentially the same thing that stunted and ultimately killed the Brontë sisters, although in addition to drinking sewage they also had decomp oozing into their water supply from the nearby graveyard

Which is considerably more metal, but a president or two dying from drinking his constituents' shit ain't nothing, either

any pick other than obama is a joke

not because I think obama was like the greatest "leader" in some abstract sense but in terms of getting things done that the demographic of this board would like to see done, I'm not even sure how there could be another serious choice

Joe Biden actually, but no one wants to like him even though he's socially easily the most left president in history

edit: I say this in terms of, for lack of a better phrase, identity issues, obviously not economic/social issues i.e. support of socialist programs

He has governed to the left of Obama on identity and civil rights issues. I'm not really sure how this has escaped everyone, other than I remember the left doing to exact same thing to Obama and making him out to be this huge disappointment who broke all his promises or something, which is false.

of course after 2016 everyone's perspective on shit changed, and folks started lose their drone fever but it's just unfortunately the natural result I guess of fickle, temporally and contextually malleable voters who themselves often have little internal consistency on what kind of change they want and what that change is worth transactionally in government.

sadly it comes home to me over and over and fucking over that in american politics, the messaging is all that matters. Biden has been a fairly deft administrator who has gotten a lot accomplished in divided government, he has so far been the figurehead of the Democratic party during a period which has seen historic, against all-odds and against all logic type electoral wins, an age in which all different breeds of Democrat seem to be able to come out and trounce Republicans in purple districts... that's a huge deal. The Democratic Party crumbled while Obama was in office, like nothing was done to prepare for the future at all.

It's just a matter of wanting to dish out blame but not credit, and again, the left does this with all their guys, so it's not surprising. we will always be our own worst enemy
