Billy has such a victim complex. I get it, but it's definitely showing with this whole "the government and society hates anyone who bucks the norms, they suppress genius out of fear."

Being a perceived victim of something also leads to the type of hate speech going around recently (not truthism or irony, The Alter) so it's not surprising and probably coming from the same place. Yuck.

Could have been a decent if dumb rocker but the production renders it completely thin and toothless. There's no grit or backbone to the guitar at all. It just sounds weak.

And this is as good as it's gonna get with Billy producing. Such a shame.

Remember when Billy was all about taking the time to work on guitar tone and creatively layering multiple guitars to create a new massive guitar sound? Yeah, those days are dead.

The best part was when Jeff said they wanted to do something new and fresh. There is nothing new or fresh about Atum.

I love how Billy is trying to trick outsiders into thinking this is a rock album by making Beguiled and Empires singles. Boy, will they be surprised when they discover the album is mostly synths. This is not a rock opera. It is a synth opera with a few generic copy and paste rock songs sprinked throughout.

as far as all the elon musk talk, he seems to be against the suppression of misinformation, in the name of free speech. he seems to praise elon musk but he's very vague about it. almost feels like he's likening the shiny character to an elon musk type figure.

If I think of each of these songs as part of a movie soundtrack with the lyrics only used to compliment the plot, I hate it less. But the subject matter always sucks, even if the guitar is okay.

It's not about too much synth or not enough guitar and drums, it's about actual good music. Empires is bland as f--k. The most unimaginative, unoriginal rock Billy has come up with. When Billy makes synth or rock music now, it all sounds cheap and sterile.

It was ok. The mix is bad, I have no clue what Katie is doing here. Guitars sound paper thin. I do like the riff and how it's structured generally

There's like 0 urgency to any of these songs tho. I thought Empires would've kicked things up a notch, but nothing.

I'd be lucky if I can manage a decent EP out of all 3 albums
