Red face James Iha, Landslide, and a Guitar Magazine.

I remember getting a guitar magazine with Landslide transcribed in it, and in the blurb about how to play it, the transcriber wrote something along the lines of; "guitarist James Iha lays down an expressive solo where he plays non-chord notes blah blah blah..." --basically giving all sorts of kudos to James' guitar playing...

...and now it turns out from this week's interview that Billy improvised the solo in one take.

I wonder if the description would have been the same if the writer knew the truth?

Didn't James get some sort of a "best guitarist" prize somewhere for Gish though Bill played them on the record?

My memory might be hazy

Probably would have changed the part about James, I would think. But you never know. Let's speculate some more on this.

i think your memory's fuzzy. it was widely known and discussed in the PI/MCIS days that landslide was Billy solo. Iha got lots of attention for his guitar work back then so it's possible you read a piece that was in error. it's far more likely, though, that you're mixing the landslide article in with some other writeup that praised James' work on the Zero solo or something.

He didn't post a link or even note a specific publication.

Real Audio 3.0 is full of shit. Just like Real Audio streams.
