their management prob forced them to play the hits on adore tour but they were bored from playing them 182723894723097423 times from 1995-1997 that they said fuck it and had some fun with it

I personally think its cool when bands change up the songs live. So I'm cool with it even if this version doesn't really gel. Despite having some beautiful songs Adore is def my least favorite era of SP1

My thoughts exactly. It was a very transparent attempt to cater to nu-metal fans. He would say it was him being “Zero” and a cynical reprimand of what audiences expected of them, but I doubt he had that kind of insight into his own motivations at that time.

If Billy cared so much about catering to Nu Metal fans he would have made a Nu Metal album instead of the Machinas. I can’t stand the man but this seems like quite a reach.

I think it's fair to say a combo of Mechanical Animals, Nu Metal, and Cyberpunk such as the Matrix and Ghost in the Shell definitely influenced the music, themes, and aesthetic of the Machina era. SP was never going to just copy Nu Metal and put out an album, but they were definitely inspired by those trends and sought to put their own stamp on it.

Influence, sure, Billy has always drawn influence from a wide variety of styles. I don't think it's the same as what he's doing now (sadly chasing relevance), as someone implied, though.

Was at one of them adore gigs and the fuckers played all songs from the still unreleased Adore and like 3 MCIS singles. That was it. No mangement would advice you to act like a self-entitled dick.

He couldn't have cared less about Nu Metal, he was so fucking scared of being left behind after MCIS success and the end of the grunge scene that he started saying/doing stupid shit like "rock is dead" and "i love Missy Elliot".

Man, so good. Daphne is not my favorite song from the album - maybe middle of the pack - but that version is flawless.

It's extremely lame. I'm pretty much with that guy AveryLovren - that live era in general was kinda crap.

BUT it was delivered with enough chutzpah that they pulled it off anyway.

There is nothing “extremely lame” about that performance. That live version of Daphne was incredible and the band sounded great. Totally shit take there incubator.

Yes

If need be, one could posit that it “transcends” genre
