Default Still Becoming Apart

Just wanted a shout-out thread for this EP. This CD and Judas O both convinced me that Billy was operating at a deeper emotional level than other rock artists I was listening to. I had the CD until a few years ago but then threw it out. Times change, but I still remember being gripped by its off-kilter darkness.

1 Hope 3:38
2 Blissed And Gone 4:46
3 Apathy's Last Kiss 2:44
4 Mayonaise (Acoustic) 4:31
5 Eye 4:54

Is Hope an Adore era track? Why wasn't it on the deluxe reissue?

I like both versions of Apathy's Last Kiss, but like the weirder one better. I don't know which was released on what because for the last 15 years I've only had digital copies of music.

2 versions? This I did not know. This track is SD era, right?

I like the second one more! Which I think is the original? Causes some LSD flashbacks yeah it's SD era, which is obvious after seeing the videos I posted lol. That top version is from the deluxe reissue and the bottom was the Today Single B side.

https://spcodex.wiki/wiki/Hope
It reportedly appeared on an early cassette tape by The Marked, meaning the song predates The Smashing Pumpkins.

Confirmed as an old (1985-86) pre-TSP demo, based on its presence on Marked demo tape.

it's also on PI+friends, so it had to be recorded before that tape was created.

On October 4th, 1994, The Smashing Pumpkins released Pisces Iscariot – a collection of b-side material from Gish, Lull, Peel Sessions, and Siamese Dream. Many of the songs were only available as imports and a select few were previously unreleased. The collection of songs spanned multiple eras and release formats to ******* CDs and vinyl.

A hand-written demo tape titled, "Pisces Iscariot + Friends", was compiled by William Patrick Corgan sometime in 1993 after the supersonic success of Siamese Dream. The cassette features a multitude of additional songs from previous demo tapes, Starchildren, live recordings, and even more unreleased material. Creating yet another grand piece of memorabilia!

6 : Pre-Pumpkins instrumental track, re-recorded in 1992. It was officially released on the Still Becoming Apart promo.

Makes sense, it doesn't really have an SD vibe, but I was deceived by its inclusion in the reissue. I actually thought it could have been a Gish outtake but I think it's cool that it's pre Pumpkins.

Yeah Hope sounds like pre-Gish for sure. Probably even closer to Marked era.

Huh, cool. I wonder if this is the only Marked song that was remade as an SP song. I guess that by going back to their Goth sound for Adore, this tracks "fits" with Blissed and Gone and the others on the EP.

Thumbs up

Man, I left this in my car's CD player for months, just playing it over and over again, never getting sick of it

It was kind of weird to hear that "normal" Apathy's on the SD reissue, like I'd never imagined they'd written/performed it as a straightforward song and then made a fucked-up version

I think Spiteface was pre-SP too. I'll check The Marked stuff I have

e: yup, it was on The Marked demos, dated 1986/10/11

I had no idea Hope was that old. Freakin' wild. Would be a fun one for a Q+A someday with him which would surely get no reply or mockery.

Didn’t the Marked also do an early version of ‘Sun’ that was called ‘Death of a Mind’?

Wow, cool. But was Hope the only Marked song that got a studio treatment or was re-recorded during or after Gish?

He'd criticize you as one of the fans living in the past. The fans who want everything to sound like the Marked are almost as numerous as the SD ones.

i'm not really sure how accurate the recording date of hope ('92) is. it could be that someone's guess was the best there was.

i also don't know if anyone ever had a chance to listen to that tape of the marked that included hope, to confirm that it was indeed the same song. i guess not?
but maybe it got confirmed by bc?
