Yeah it sounds like some MCR hot topic shit. Definitely not an SP style lead at all. I will die on the hill that he shouldn’t be in the band now that James is back.

If the new heavy portion of the record sounds like as Rome burns, I’ll be very happy

Wait a sec, MCR hail from the New Jersey post-hardcore scene, good shit. Of course then emo happened and they played along with it becoming millionaires in the process.

What's crazy is how big they got right away and how big they still are.

I envy whoever cut their losses and jumped ship after Machina. I salute those who disembarked after Adore.

The official SP Tik Tok account posts a lot of Gerard Way is a Bolly fanboi content. I couldn’t name a single MCR tune.

I was a teen in the height of the emo era and fucking hated all of it, and wish i wasn't reading anything about MCR right now. Although sometimes I did enjoy the makeup and choppy bangs.

Lmao must be quite the other way around at this point.

Gerard’s done all the right moves: band hiatus at the height of its fame, unbelievably successful non-music ventures and now a huge comeback.

The mainstream hot topic emo era was absolute trash. I hated every one of those bands.

This is trash. Billy doesn't play riffs anymore. When he pretends to, he just plays this kind of sloppy jam mess.

Uh dude that’s like first wave mid-90’s american emo. That’s the good shit before it fused with screamo and became that post hardcore hot topic crap.

"Empire, Empire, Empire..."
The lazy repetitive lyric thing is still hanging on like a bad habit, but overall, things are definitely getting better.
There's a little more sense of the band being a 'them' and despite it still seeming more restrained to align with the modern rock approach, it does seem more balanced to allow more of an old 90's vibe. Still hopeful for more new tunes.

no clue what any of that means

whatever this band is doing here, it’s devoid of integrity or artistic merit. it’s just empty fluff propped up with flashing lights and posturing and pageantry.

But MCR was the one 2000s scene band that had classic rock lead guitar

I mean, the lead guitarist even looked like he got lost on his way to a Wolfmother audition

This is the case for literally everything he's put out after Machina II.

It's weird how what was called "emo" in 2007 bore almost no resemblance to emo before it.

How did we go from Cap'n Jazz and Mineral to The Used and Underoath?

90s emo was massively overhyped by critics but never really made it past college radio or whatever.

emo was just the perfect word for 2007 kids, they probably dead never heard of Texas is The Reason or The Get Up Kids.

Green Day's release of Boulevard of Broken Dreams was a real shock for me. Seemed so left field for the Dookie Boys, but emo was really that popular.
