Daily Express | Showbiz :: Pop's rant against modern rock

The Lust for Life hitmaker started a backlash against the genre on his website by branding certain groups "idiot thugs with guitars making crappy music".

And the singer has now revealed during a video announcement for his new album, Preliminaires, that he was referring to Fred Durst's recently reformed group and the Smashing Pumpkins.

He says, "Anyone from Smashing Pumpkins to - what's the one with Fred Durst?... There are a million billion of them. And people

think they're gods, man."

And the star also takes a swipe at intellectual rockers, adding, "I took great pains not to think first because the thing I can't stand is a rock star who thinks he's got brains. They're always so damned dull!"

as much as i can dig iggy's older music, he's always been kind of an idiot. branding anyone from the pumpkins a "thug" just reinforces that notion. also, an aversion to things of an intellectual nature oten coincides with a lack of personal intellect.

I mean, we can talk about the new music sucking and being nothing too innovative (I actually like the new stuff) but to call out the band that made Siamese Dream, MCIS, and Adore...guy's nuts.

The 1-2-3 release of stooges, fun house, and raw power is so essential that iggy can say anything he wants. Billy never released 3 classic albums in a row.

sure he did. Maybe even 4.

I respect Iggy's music, but like taking pot shots at SP and Limp Bizkit!? (since when did anyone talk about limp bizkit?) Iggy can't write a fucking song anymore either so he should just shut the fuck up.

ahahaha, turdlion. I say billy pretty much released 3 classic albums in one session alone with Dawn to Dusk, Twilight to Starlight and Aeroplane Flies High.
on a related note, Iggy is a fucking idiot. big news.

Don't act like you don't get it, smart-ass. Everyone on this board could pick 13 songs from TAFH and make one awesome album.

This is true. The most important thing about it however, is Billy didn't.

So it's not an album.

I couldn't.

TAFH
Set the Ray to Jerry
Tribute to Johnny
Transformer
God (being generous)
...
drawing a blank. is there anything else good on that collection? The covers are bad. I listened to the Tonight, Tonight disc maybe twice. I have trouble understanding why Pistachio Melody exists. Seriously, classic my fucking ass. It's just a collection of crap that was cut from an album that needed to be cut in the first place. Holy shit.

I mean seriously have you listened to other music?

Iggy is a a streetwalkin cheetah with a heart full of napalm

btw Adore and/or Gish are not classic or essential albums unless you're a pumpkins fag and/or have very low standards for what "classic" and/or "essential" mean.
