Apologies for the incoming untroo fan question, but what's the story behind the Machina II Q101 & the 4 Virgin promo cds? Are they the "real" album? Is the quality any better? Does anyone on this board own them? Which one is more valuable? Will Mals ever return to this trotsforsaken board?

Radio Station Q101 received 1 of the 25 vinyl copies of Machina II, of which they burned 2000 2CD sets. Fans of the Smashing Pumpkins could win them in a contest in 2000. The pics on the top row show 1 of these sets, numbered 405/2000, then the second row (first 3 pics) show 0001/2000, and the last 4 pics are from 390/2000.

We know of at least 1 unnumbered copy to exist, that was send to a fan outside the radio contest. Although it is not really an official release, it isn’t un-official either. That’s why we file it in the CDs (Official) section of SPfreaks.

Unknown to the general public, that still believes there was only 1 Vinyl pressing of Machina II + EP’s & the possibility to download the songs from several sources on the internet: there are also 2 CD pressings, 1 in the US and 1 in the UK. Both are extremely rare to get, as they were never sent out to any media, and the amount pressed are very low too: approximately less than 10 for the US set (presented here), and maybe a few dozen for the UK set.

the virgin promos are vinyl rips too. there have been no digitally sourced versions of m2 yet to surface outside the officially released tracks from rotten apples / judas 0 compilation and the untitled single b-side.

all the vinyl rips are free to listen and download on the internet archive, so go and decide for yourself that the q101 version sounds the best:

Hilarious that he did that in a robe… but, that aside, I actually didn’t find anything about it to be annoying or frustrating. I appreciated the update, he seemed to be in a good mood. I wish he could have said more about the Machina reissue other than the same “vinyl shortage” thing… because there’s been a lot about that explanation that doesn’t make complete sense. He also looks like he’s lost weight… looks good.

TFE sold 300 copies, there is no way it warrants or would be profitable from a full reissue treatment.
