Iggy Pop
Daily Express | Showbiz :: Pop's rant against modern rock
The Lust for Life hitmaker started a backlash against the genre on his website by branding certain groups "idiot thugs with guitars making crappy music". And the singer has now revealed during a video announcement for his new album, Preliminaires, that he was referring to Fred Durst's recently reformed group and the Smashing Pumpkins. He says, "Anyone from Smashing Pumpkins to - what's the one with Fred Durst?... There are a million billion of them. And people think they're gods, man." And the star also takes a swipe at intellectual rockers, adding, "I took great pains not to think first because the thing I can't stand is a rock star who thinks he's got brains. They're always so damned dull!" |

as much as i can dig iggy's older music, he's always been kind of an idiot. branding anyone from the pumpkins a "thug" just reinforces that notion. also, an aversion to things of an intellectual nature oten coincides with a lack of personal intellect.

I mean, we can talk about the new music sucking and being nothing too innovative (I actually like the new stuff) but to call out the band that made Siamese Dream, MCIS, and Adore...guy's nuts.

The 1-2-3 release of stooges, fun house, and raw power is so essential that iggy can say anything he wants. Billy never released 3 classic albums in a row.

what he's saying is basically valid, whatever part of the quote you're trying too hard to focus on.

Iggy is a a streetwalkin cheetah with a heart full of napalm
btw Adore and/or Gish are not classic or essential albums unless you're a pumpkins fag and/or have very low standards for what "classic" and/or "essential" mean. |

This thread got me wiki'ing Limp Bizkit, and apparently they have posted some rehearsal videos for the new tour (original lineup), including "break stuff". What a timely, timely song. Its hard to imagine not at least one member playing this again and thinking 'What the fuck were we thinking'
This is a new Iggy Pop song he says is the best on the album, and it is a fucking turd and a half. |

After Iggy did the insurance commercials he lost the right to attack anyone else's credibility.
