Maybe I'm in a weird mood, but Cyr isn't that bad...
...with the caveat that this band and the 1988-2000 band are not at all the same entity.
Maybe it's because I've been making a playlist for a party for the last hour and have heard the same triphop, synthwave, and lo-fi beats for an hour straight. But there's some decent stuff in here. Idk, the beats are decent. That's all... Also haven't listened to most of these songs in 2 years. Check back in an hour. |

Yeah, i thought it was the best release as a whole since machina when it first came out. Or least offensive is more accurate. Theres some layering in the synths that strikes me as kinda new and special, not apparent on first listen or without headphones. There’s some pretty decent lurics also imo
Listened for like a month then dropped it. And now as with every big willie release since zwan i can’t remember a single hook from it |

i don't think i ever listened to it. the singles that dropped each midnight i stopped listening to after the second set because it was bad synth garbage
there's one that has good lyrics about birch trees and fatherhood and shit? one where he goes like 'swoooooon' and it's kinda swell-y and SD-y |

at every re-listen
all the songs sound familiar to me, but nothing pulls me in to really want to get to know them or give the songs more than passing attention... |

Cyr is the best album Bill has put out post-ZG.
It has too many tracks and some are v.bad, but it’s got a pretty decent vibe tbh. Vox down version is best. |

Halfway decent. Usual SP2X problem of as many blah tracks as listenable ones. Liked Oceania more.

I bought my copy of American Gothic in a musty, water-logged, post-Katrina trailer of a record store in New Orleans
I was kind of hype to the idea of "we make american gothic music" |

Gripped a handful of those circular Machina/Machines of God stickers there too.
Good times. |

Turns out people don't wanna listen to goth industrial, Hamburger Train by Primus, and the latest NIN stuff at parties. I have to sprinkle in 50% of the most basic inoffensive shit so that I don't lose music privileges, because then it devolves into Journey singalongs and Black Eyed Peas and other ear cancer |

Save Your Tears is good (but I haven't paid attention to the lyrics). Could have been one of the better TFE songs.
I can't remember the rest of the album though. |

The only track I remember is Color Of Your Love. That track would be right at home on Oceania.

Cyr is def the best album since Zeitgeist. Not exactly a high bar but it's nice to hear something that's not terrible.

The title track has got some cool energy. "The Colour of Love" sounds like it could be a Machina II song. I still say "Save Your Tears" is one of the top 5 post-2000 songs he's written. I can take or leave the rest Honestly, I liked Shiny 1 more than this.

I'm inspired to listen again sometime this week. Will report back if I make it through.
