Default Greg Leisz Interview

Dude who played pedal steel on "Take Me Down" and all of Let It Come Down (as well as a million other things with different artists).

Going back here, can you talk about playing with the Smashing Pumpkins on Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness? Youíre on the James Iha track ďTake Me Down.Ē

Thatís another one of those random things. I just got contacted. I forget if it was directly by James Iha or the management. It was just that Billy Corgan was allowing James to do one song on a double album. [Laughs] He was like, ďHereís this carrot. You can do anything you want.Ē He asked me to come to Chicago and I was there. I overdubbed on the song. He had Flood and the other producer [Alan Moulder]. They had two different studios in the same complex. Billy was in one room working on his stuff and James was in this other room working on his song. It wasnít much.

Later, I did play on a James Iha solo album [Let It Come Down] that Jim Scott produced. I went back to Chicago and worked on that with James. Another funny story is that when we were in the studio, he had a banjo. I didnít have one and said Iíd like to play it. A couple of months later, a box came to my house and it had a banjo in it. It didnít say who it was from. He basically gave me a banjo. I learned how to play it and Iíve now played it on a couple of records. Itís kind of funny.

Further (as if it was needed) proof that James is great.

I often wondered was Billy even ON Take Me Down - this suggests he wasn't.

Billy didn't know about James deal for a solo record until it had happened.
And was also upset for not having been asked to join the recordings of Let It Come Down, proclaiming it would have gotten better with him as a producer.
