Default Linkin Park Reunion

Thoughts on the Linkin Park reunion? I don't think they'll be as good as with Chester, but I will definitely go see them if I can!! The new song is pretty good too.

it's been kind of a shitshow from what i can tell. first people are upset because the singer supported danny masterson at his trial (initially, and she has addressed the criticism explaining she stopped supporting him once it was clear what happened.)

and the drummer isn't part of it.

then after a day or two the guitarist said he won't be playing live with them

and today chester bennington's son went off on shinoda saying he's erasing his dad's legacy, etc. etc.

i don't really agree with the criticisms that much, and don't think it's appropriate for fans to try to police what the band does or doesn't do, but regardless, overall it's been pretty bumpy. i listened to the song once and found it boring.

would not have imagined that the Static-X resurrection, featuring a guy in a wayne static zombie mask, would look so much better by comparison, but here we are

Their music has dated horribly, so as nostalgia acts go this is fairly cynical. Form a new band or move on.

Then again, ff people want to listen to shit music who are we to stop them.

that song in particular, i feel the same, it's basically unlistenable. but there are a few of their albums that i listen to every once in a while and enjoy

Mike Shinoda is 47. Can you imagine playing that song when you are so close to 50? Fuck me.

Anyway, in the spirit of having very little else to do this afternoon I shall do a deep dive into the world of Linkin Park. Just for you Whatcolor. Along the way I'll say hello to me aged 16, which was depressingly a lot more than 16 years ago.

in the context of this band, calling anything from the first two albums "unlistenable" in light of some of their later albums is like splitting hairs over MCIS-era stuff in a post-ATUM world

if the mood for Hybrid Theory hits, you all know damn well you're blasting it all the way thru

Not that I even like Linkin Park, but I think if you wrote angsty songs in your youth, you've got every right to still perform those songs when you're old. You don't have to be in the same place as you were back then for the performance to feel genuine.

It's quite a different thing when a band writes new songs at 47 that are still full of teen angst instead of writing material that has matured past that, though. That's when it becomes cringe.

That's just my take.

Same! Not to undermine the scientology stuff, I just don't think it's worth boycotting the band over or something like that.

Agreed! It's much better to boycott them because their music and image was always the whiniest, tackiest shit ever

Nu-metal, but watered down lol

Chester Bennington dealt with depression his whole life, and later committed suicide, yet here we are saying his music was "whiny". Unreal...

Linkin Park ruled. Their first two albums, A Thousand Suns and The Hunting Party are all excellent nu-metal albums. This reunion can fuck right off.

Despite obviously struggling with very real mental issues, the Link in Bio singer managed to sound completely manufactured and contrived and downright whiny, as if produced by Max Martin, which is impressive. It stands out as his biggest quality. RIP

But then, there is actual meat of a real slaughtered animal in a McDonalds Hamburger.

Linkin Park was absolutely terrible. They were a boy band put together by the label to cash in on nu-metal. Mike Shinoda’s awful Vanilla Ice tier raps make me laugh every time and Chester’s vocals were whiny as hell. Surprisingly their new single is the first bearable song I’ve ever heard from them. The chick is an improvement if anything.
