The new Taylor Swift album is not good. I regret to inform after the incredible Folklore-Evermore-Midnights run.

You can’t own half of it on physical media (same with Midnights but they at least put the big hitters on the main album), this is unfocused and cringe but there is probably a good album amongst the 31 tracks somewhere.

Disclaimer: This is based on 1.5x listens because it’s so fucking long. Are we ATUM now?

this is a weird album. the second half is obviously outtakes but marketing it as a double album makes it weird to evaluate. some of the songs on part 2 are really undeveloped and the album just goes through a huge emotional let down after some of the powerful tracks on the first half. Having said that there's enough good tracks in total to make this on par with Midnights

see I loved Midnights but don't vibe with this at all. Midnights got me into Swift tbh

that's funny, Midnights took me awhile to really get into as a long time fan.

for me this album is easier to digest just listening to the first half as the LP and the second half as bonus material. Fortnite, Poets, Down Bad, Daddy, Slammer, Guilty as Sin, and the Alchemy are as good as anything she's ever done. I'm not such a fan of Goodbye London or I Can Fix Him. Broken Heart is dumb, but it's a bop.

On the second half the songs start out much more forgettable, but there's still a few gems even though they sometimes seem undeveloped, e.g. The Bolter and So High School have classic infectious Taylor melodies and great hooks, but the lyrics seem throwaway and the instrumentation isn't very fleshed out.

This is definitely her most indulgent album, but in some ways it's also her most honest and I feel like this one is really for the hardcore fans.
