The Colour Of Love
Anno Satana
Save Your Tears
Schaudenfreud
Birch Grove

Think this would be a half decent genre-exercise EP for me (bit like American Gothic), everything else I've axed for being production that doesn't work, bad singing, silly lyrics about dolphins or just being a bit weak.

I do like these tracks more now though, they have grown on me but I don't think the others will! Save Your Tears def gives me those classic Corgan feels.

Colour of Love and and Anno Satana are two of the weaker tracks. And Schroderfraud is filler. Your EP is suspect.

The verse on the latter is a bit weak but I like the chorus a lot, seems like one of the moments where he reaches the point he's trying to get to with the production

Give Purple Blood and Haunted a fair chance. I really dig those two.

That "I'm in love with your KKKAAAAANIIIIDDDDDDE" puts me off too much, there's a few vocal bits like that on the album that are really offputting

I do quite like the THX deep note style rising synth. Haunted there's a good tune buried in there but the production in the verses is not so good

Keeping anymore than 12 songs from this album is insane. Most of you are insane.

Perfect Cyr tracklisting:

1. Birch Grove
2. Dulcet in E
3. Purple Blood
4. Save Your Tears
5. Minerva

Bonus track / B-side / radio single:
Colour of Love

The End.

There you have it. This would be a good album / EP.

Turn The Glass Upside Down... (self.SmashingPumpkins)

submitted 22 hours ago by spellerine

Hey guys,

Not a regular poster, but I wanted to share this somewhere. Open any Cyr track into Audacity and go to Effect/Invert. Then split the stereo into 2 mono tracks. Make the top track RIGHT, and make the bottom track LEFT. Click play.

You should hear what sounds like a completely different mix, in most cases with more real sounding drums.

I just had the idea something was up with the sound, so decided to play with it. What do you think? Done on purpose?

Ah but if you go one further and swap them around and convert the format to 44k you unlock all the fuzz guitars and it sounds like Siamese Dream

Someone tell us if this guy is legit. If so, that's some epic Tool-fanbase level deep dive into the mechanics of their sound.

You used to be able to have all sorts of inverted wave form fun with Beatles songs. You wouldn’t necessarily get a different mix but you could hear things you wouldn’t normally hear as they were buried in the mix.

So with Cyr it’s probably a case of different reverbs or ambience coming to the fore and making it sound like a different mix.

It sounds like you're basically just reversing the stereo image?

It sounds like he has the drums panned from the "audience" perspective: the snare and hi-hat are slightly to the right. The toms and ride cymbal are to the left.

I think most rock music is panned from the "drummer's" perspective, which is opposite that. It's possible that by reversing the stereo image (making the song drummer's perspective) it just sounds a little more familiar to you.

I am not sure. There are more real acoustic sounds and less synthy sounds. And the synth sounds that ARE there seem better mixed in relation to other instruments and voices. Basically it makes more sense to your ear. There’s acoustic guitar, a few nice layered guitar bits. Drums.

I don’t know if im uncovering the sounds “right”, just that it does something that makes you wonder what’s going on here.

As described, you're phase inverting - which does nothing if you don't combine the stereo tracks somehow - and reversing stereo.

permalink embedsave parentreportgive awardreply

[–]spellerine

[S] 1 point 16 hours ago

A phase inversion (inverting one side but not the other and laying them over top of each other in mono) sounds like things are missing. This doesn’t. Maybe I’m not explaining it right.

Yeah, I think you might have missed a step in your OP. If you only invert one channel, that will definitely give you some funky results. Usually, this cancels out the center or the outer tracks. (i.e. everything that's in the center of the mix will get much quieter, or everything that's not in the center will get quieter)

So it's not that they made a bad album, it's that they recorded a good album and then turned it into a bad album in post-production.

Someone needs to steal the masters and send them to Flood's house in the middle of the night.

Inverting the phase on both channels of a stereo track doesn't do anything to the sound. You'd have to invert one and keep the other one un-inverted. All you're doing is swapping the left and right channels.

permalink embedsave reportgive awardreply

[–]spellerine

[S] 2 points 18 hours ago

When you invert it all, left and right need to swap to hear it correctly. You can literally swap L/R to R/L and back again , without inverting and hear differences in the drums especially. I don’t know if it’s intentional or just a result of how they layered it. But it works. Songs like “Dulcet In E” and “Ramona” seem to transform quite a bit.

agree with that. Birch Grove and Purple Blood are totally decent. The other 3 were ok enough that I looked at the Spotify player while they were on to register the names
