Default Favorite 90s band besides SP?

I think for me it would be between Electric Wizard (honestly I like their later stuff better but they are one of my favorite bands and they started in the 90s so they get a mention), Alice in Chains and Nirvana. I am a huge fan of Metallica in the 80s, but their 90s stuff isn't up to the same standard at all. Slayer is also one of my faves, but I haven't heard all of their 90s stuff yet. How about you guys?

Seeing as there was no pop music before or after The Beatles, that is the only correct answer

They're still trying to make pop music these days but you can really feel it's a complete zombie-like version of what it's supposed to be. They're just talking over a beat these days

Hmm. I never thought of Electric Wizard as a "'90s band," even though they started back then. I think of "'90s bands" as "bands that were big in the '90s (even if they started in the '80s)", rather than any band that started back then.

But if we're considering both as '90s bands, then I guess Electric Wizard has to be one for me, too
Dopethrone and Come My Fanatics are among my all-time favourite albums.

Other than that:

Cursive (damn, I don't like thinking of them as a '90s band, either)

Afghan Whigs (it seems any band that wasn't doing the grunge or primarily punk-influenced sound at the time was underrated, because nobody seems to talk about these guys as much as they do Pearl Jam or Soundgarden or whatever, even though they're imo more interesting)

Hole

Pixies

Acid King

Arab Strap

Slowdive

Catherine Wheel

Starflyer 59

But on a similar note, I'd like to throw Breeders on the pile of '90s bands I like better than SP.

Like, the original run of SP can't be fucked with, but these other bands played the long game much better and still hold up. Hard to overlook the two decades of bullshit from Crogan.

Hmm. They started not long before the Pumpkins did, but I suppose SP's first full albums didn't come until the '90s, and most of their important work spans that decade, whereas the important Pixies albums started in the late '80s and extended only into the early '90s.

Also, how did I forget Radiojed.

i abstain from putting Radiohead in the "90s band" threads since they only had 1 real masterpiece in the decade, vs 2 in the next

unless you ride hard for The Bends, in which case, more power to ya!

Well, they are missing a certain someone

I haven't really listened to much live stuff of them after D'Arcy left tbqh. What I heard of SP2 was sad, as Billy's voice was weird. Don't like what little I've heard of Jeff wanking on guitar either.
