Default Getting into new music voluntarily

let me preface this by saying i am probably weird

every time i actively try to find new music i have a shitty time. i'm over critical and never settle on anything. every artist i like i came upon on a whim or by chance - recently those have been Phoebe Bridgers, Emmylou Harris, Taylor Swift, Cocteau Twins, Japanese Breakfast, Radio Dept...

i already tried for like 10 minutes to do the fool's errand of getting into new stuff and my head fucking hurts

also i think i have this weird autism thing where i can't really enjoy a song unless i've heard it before and kinda know the structure

fuck.

you're just getting old, apparently no mental health issues here

try listening to new music while doing something else, like playing video games of doing the dishes, things that will keep you from skipping tracks, that way you will get familiar with the songs

you may just not be ready to get into new music, tbh. when you are, it'll be a pleasure to sift through certain things that either somehow correlate with what you already love or are just new experiences altogether. no point in forcing it

Cocteau Twins are legit tho

could go the similar artists route

like for CT you might also like Xmal D if you like the early goth stuff or maybe Galaxie 500 for pretty pretty guitars

Is this a new thing or an all-the-time thing? I go through phases where everything bores me and I don't even want to listen to old favorites, but those usually don't last more than a week.

I'm disappointed you didn't go with "Your father makes sweet, sweet music" or something to that effect.

May I suggest some Mamaleek? "Album was recorded live with little to no overdubs."

maybe - it seems like there's so many shitty experiences of like 'i should like this but don't' - if it's something that correlates to what i do like

i hate new experiences lol

it is my favourite too! although the whole album is good.

apparently not everyone is a fan of her voice, I thought it might be something for you since you're also into Mazzy Star. Not very similar though I know
