I still get my stuff in trade paperback format. I know ereaders and ebooks are a thing and all, but I think about potential long-term consequences of squinting at my phone screen for hours on end and I get paranoid.

I want to get a tablet so that I can switch to digital for monthly magazine-format issues. Trade paperbacks and hardcovers are cool because I can just shelf them, but when it comes to floppies, I literally read them once and put them in boxes that just take up space. It's not like they'll even ever be worth anything. As much as I like the physical format (and actually owning things instead of the license to view things, which can be revoked at any time), it just seems like a waste to purchase that format for anything other than my favourite comics at this point. Even for trades, I've probably got too many of those.

As for what comics are good these days, fuck, I haven't kept up with new comics for maybe three of four years now? Not a new one, but I recently read Richard McGuire's Here. It's fine, but to be honest, the older and shorter version published in Raw seemed a lot more effective than the expanded version.

everyone buy "gates of plasma" by carlos gonzalez if you like "underground sci-fi comics"
"A semi-truck driver meets a mysterious woman while participating in a research study for a pharmaceutical corporation. Romance blooms, but they are separated when it is discovered that this woman emits an unknown substance from her ear that is of great interest to the CEO of the drug company. A cult-like inner circle consume untested drugs and dabble in a primitive form of plastic surgery, while obsessing over an unperformed theatrical script that holds the key to their prophecies." or keep up with his current work "everglide" issue 2 is still available on his bigcartel |
