That was quite nice.

remembering how SP grew and how SD songs had depth as acoustic songs, only augmented by the plugged in studio versions - I don't think billy really appreciates this facet that made the era as riviting as it was. The band was about the music, and the music really was fucking great.

Yes, no big concepts, no narratives, no statements. Just music that meant something to both them and the listeners.

This was great. I missed it live but the stream capture sounds lovely.

Or like he has a manager "advising" him not to do it.

"Do the tour", they'd say. "Take the money."

Red face

  • "So to put this in context, Chloe was one year old when I wrote this next song"
  • Billy goes on: The officiant at the wedding said "The first time I saw Billy and Chloe together, I assumed she was his niece"
  • Billy goes on: Chloe's brother, in his speech after the ceremony, thanked Billy "for being such a good father to Chloe"
  • Billy awkwardly laughs after each self-owning revelation
  • Finally cuts to a wide shot of the whole band who all have awkward, get-me-out-of-here half-smiles, except Jimmy who LOLs when Billy looks back at him

Not creepy as fuck at all

Pretty sure it wasn't venues telling him this, but people is in his inner circle/financial backers/management, which shows how Billy has surrounded himself with the most clueless people possible. These are the same people who tell him Atum is gonna be amazing.

Since when did Billiam take advice from anyone?

Kerry said it plain as day Mr. Billy listens to no one now. It’s all BC my friend. Love it or Hate it… it’s his ship.

Question

Okay I'm at the part where Billy's talking about the SD tour and he says "So, please be part of the drumbeat that tells the powers that be, to use a wrestling phrase, that um you do want to see that type of—" and James cuts in to say something. Can anyone make out what he said? The first time I thought it was just "'wrestling phrase'" and I LOL'd, but now I don't think that's it. Billy starts that sentence around 47:12 and James cuts in around 47:19. Whatever it is makes Billy laugh.

I imagine that it would only be in the US
Otherwise
I preferred to see them in a big show with a Siamese Dream section like Billy did in 2016

Watching James while Billy introduced Mayonnaise was tough. Agreeable, noncommittal, fidgeting leg. Maybe things are fraying with him and Billy.

Musically the tempos were pretty sluggish. The show had none of the energy of 93’ obviously. It seemed more like a funeral service for the album. Three guitars clearly not needed. Someone was really off tempo on Cherub Rock.

It’s James’ song and has always been a point of contention between the two

On the ig they posted about a new clothing drop with HUF this Thursday. Billy showed a cool Gish sweater that has the song titles on the back, but it’s weird how it also has a Siamese Dream logo on the front.

James wrote the intro chords and Billy finished it off with the lyrics

in today's episode of Conversations We're Still Having in 2023

James wrote the whole main progression too. Especially considering it’s based off the same weird tuning. Billy’s whole issue with the song over the years is that James wrote the music and it’s considered SP’s most beloved song. Which is quite hilarious considering that many bands, including some of the most revered bands of all time, work collaboratively. I don’t see how you find the negative in that.

i almost just said "chords" but momentarily got it mixed up with Soma I guess

either way, they were obviously good doing that kind of thing together - Billy in general benefits pretty immediately from actually working with his bandmates in that way, it's no mystery why "With Sympathy" was head and shoulders above most of the past 3 albums' content

Yeah that’s very true. With Sympathy is probably the single best SP track of the past ten years easily.

I love how I'm the guy that gets accused of thinking he's the "expert" here.

anyway i just watched this and found it heart warming. but why the hell did billy seem to struggle with tuning his guitar? any experts want to weigh in?

i enjoyed him mentioning darcy. he seemed genuinely happy looking back at that time, playing the music in this way, telling long stories.

jimmy owing $2700 in parking tickets and not being able to pay them until the band started making money, hilarious.

if mayo had been a single-- would it have been big? or would it have sunk due to declining interest in the record at that point?
