Default Happy Anniversary Adore

23 years. Fun! Once in a While is my favorite cut from this era.

Question that I’ve never heard anything about: What did Jimmy do between the time he was fired in 96 and rehired (end of 98 supposedly?)

I know he got clean, but did he do anything musically?

Also they should re-record Adore with Jimmy.

Apples + Oranjes is shit.

Jimmy recorded an album with the band The Last Hard Men: a "super group" with Sebastian Bach, Kelley Deal, and Jimmy Flemion. To my knowledge, that was his only musical output from that era.

I could give a more nuanced answer, but I'll keep it simple: not particularly.

I purchased the CD and the tape, because I only had a cassette player in the car, at the wonderful, now sadly missed Tower Records on Sunset the day of release.
I was gleeful for the album and I loved it.
It's probably my favorite Pumpkins album. Maybe should have been a solo album.
A slightly reworked track listing and the dumping of songs like once upon a time, apples and oranjes, crestfallen onto soundtracks, and the album would have sold a lot better.

I'm not sure it would have mattered. I think the time spent in the studio pounding it out working on the electronic side of Adore probably further pushed James and D'Arcy further away and towards the door.

Adore is the only album and era I can still listen to. After seeing b0llys true personality over these last years; i can't listen to the music anymore.

What if Adore opened with For Martha... It's meant to be to Sheila. Meant to be quiet and lush

i didn't listen to adore until i got to college. got my fake id in the morning, bought a bottle of wine, drank half while moping to once upon a time/etc, took a nap, then drove 3 hours to see my first proper live concert ever. sp wasn't involved. got home at like 1am and finished the wine

i feel like as an album, adore isn't really good at anything? i love, to varying degrees, the weepy dark gothic folk, the full band ballads, etc

but it's never like 'i love the entire gamut of sound this record has' like i have with MCIS

I think Adore has some of Billy's best vocals on it. That's the consistency throughout. Annie Dog excluded of course.

If you take MCIS as a victorian colored paining... Adore was the sepia.
It brought variety in the way that SP always did, all with new sepia hues.
I find the mono vinyl expecially poignant at this depth. It's a great trip.

I loved that the opening lyric to adore was a wink to ending MCIS "twilight fades"

I wouldn't change a thing except left Jimmy in the band but forced him to bench-warming status.
(it is amazing that it took 3 percussionists as live replacements)

The one thing that adore lost was the "fun and hopeful' parts of SP.

jk, that's a pretty good descript

i think b0llzy referred to it as a "joyless record" at some point semi-recently, which i more or less agree with

in the right mood tho it is truly the right record

who needs joy anyway?
i can't handle more than one single tear of joy (to my eye) at a time, so joyless is perfect for me.

i love the quote where billy says 'if someone tells me adore is their favorite album i will fall over laughing' because he realizes it is bad

one time someone on either here or blamo talked about literally chunking this album in the trash when it first came out

i think about that at least once a month

I think you're confusing it with the one from two years ago. Although the one from six years ago was similar

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, "The Last Hard Men"!

Their aeroplane flew high a while waiting for a new landing permission for the drummer.

One of the more annoying things about their social media management, it's always the 22nd birthday of something or other

I appreciate when anniversary celebrants aren't biased towards numbers divisible by 5
