both Complex records are better than anything "Pumpkins" have done since Z and i'm a little surprised that isn't a more popular opinion on here

i ranked that & potatoes on their own merits, as it is pretty dumb to pit compilations against albums in the first place

yet here we are!

Disclaimer: I actually have listened to Look to the Sky once, but I just can't remember anything about it. That probably means it was bad, but it just seems cruel to put it on the same level as Teargarden.

objectively, i agree, siamese dream is clearly in the top tier of their albums when ranking by quality. i ranked them by how much i personally enjoy them now, and put siamese dream 1 tier down from the top. a little conflicted about that, probably would be ok with it on top tier, but it doesn't hit me in the same way it used to.

Tbh

i just don’t care about the solo records from the SP members. For me it’s all about that solid gold run from preggish thru most of adore, and whatever other BC/JC thing that’s not zeitgeist. Especially not into big willie solo endeavors other than like a single track here and there, i just wanna bask in the good stuff that emanates from, orbits the peak there of like By Starlight and swirls outward from there like a spiral galaxy in a very special part of the hurting universe

i don't even think of the Complex stuff as "jazz" so much as JC being his beastly self over music that isn't produced by Rick Rubin, Billy Corgan, or any other such dickhead out to basically make anything & everything sound like plastic "poo poo"

Instead of shaming the inferior albums what if we celebrated their uniqueness in a way that allows them to go on and find their own lives in the bedrooms of some hypothetical um, probably like a sadsack porn addict vs bipolar serial burglar

Everybody’s different guys c’mon, fuck these tiears, let’s give all the albums a good midnite rub down before we send em on their way, to fly free of our hard heartedness

Doing this, I realized that the only really change I have had over the years is that Machina II shares the top tier with MCIS and SD. 10, 20 years ago Adore would have been top, but now it strikes me as a bit much.

Yeah Machina 2 aged really well - and I think that is entirely unintentional and in spite of the involvement of a certain Mr. William.

Adore has aged like shit.

It's one long, brown sub-Moby technogoth poop with 6 MCIS-tier tracks: To Sheila, Perfect, DD, Appels, Behold, Dusty.
Like... even for a grief or break-up record, there are many more insightful, relatable and listenable records than Adore.

Adore and Machina (both I&II) are tied for my top spot. Well, actually Machina edges out Adore with the sheer volume of work.

I think Pug is one of the best songs Billy has ever written.

The way i figure is if i can skip 2 or 3 tracks and make it a 10/10 record, its top tier for me

Basically my tiers reflect “how many tracks do i have to skip” not “how awesome is this album as a complete experience?”

I agree that the Adore tone is pretty monotonous. Though weirdly it also sounds like several album projects assembled together. Machina II has more stripped back production so it actually fits together pretty well, and it has many different tones so it is actually enjoyable to listen to. But I do wonder what happened with MII. Billy's whiny self-absorbed suffering makes Adore sound very self-indulgent today, while on MII he is playing a big ego star, but unlike on his more recent work, the focus still seems to be on songs and listenability.

And I don't know how so many of you can stick MI and MII together as albums. Whatever the artiste's true intention was, their production makes them sound like totally different projects.

I judge other SP fans based on how they appraise Adore.
