Zwan, 2001-11-21, Roxy, Los Angeles, CA, US (soundcheck)

Hi all,

Just wanted to share this. I apologize for the godawful quality, but it's what I managed to record.

Backstory: I was there, in the parking lot. I had a cheap generic mono lapel mic and a Sharp MD MT-15. I heard them soundchecking and started recording. Then my recorder began to repeatedly fail, hard. I would record and it would just stop. So I would change the MDs, change the batteries, etc., multiple times. It sucked. They soundchecked "Roxy" that night and it was never heard of again. I did manage to get a small portion of it, though. It's a rocker. When I got home, I was so upset about it that I didn't even label the discs. Just put them in a drawer, unorganized, and kinda forgot about them. Until recently.

I had all my MD masters digitally transferred and the following recordings were recovered. I've stitched them together the best I could.

Roxy is at about the 15:20 mark.

This is a noble, even legendary, effort, but unfortunately we already have three clear recordings of that entire soundcheck

Okay those are the show, not the soundcheck, but just imagine, right? Haha, like holy shit, just fucking imagine, dude

Sorry if I gave you a heart attack, although really I'm not sure what other result I was looking to produce

This is awesome thankyou for sharing! Real honour to see things such as this after all these years. Expect there are others with similar stories who never shared their tapes due to issues which is a real shame as its another piece of SP/Zwan history.

There are still so many unsurfaced recordings which is crazy so hopefully more things surface in the future! Glad this did so again thankyou!

nice to have another amazing early zwan song unreleased and lost to time

Thank you! Always love seeing new sources dropped, even if they're not the best or most complete. Would you be okay with us tracking this and getting it up on the live music archive for safe keeping?

As stated - amazing effort and great story. The more the merrier when it comes to unreleased Zwan - who knows if any of this stuff will ever see the light of day.

Side note: this was the one Zwan show I was able to see. Wasn't there early enough for soundcheck stuff, though.
