Default yeah i watched the grammys

while hitting the FF button often.

james blunt blows.

the police didn't sound great.

lionel richie sounded good.

mayer, legend, rae were decent.

chili peppers - blah.

gnarls barkley - interesting version of song, sounded good.

too much mary j. blige.

dixie chicks didn't deserve album of the year, but then again the others in the category weren't exciting.

meh.

tried to watch it. missed justin so it wasn't worth it. then christina gets awards for oversinging and doing the tired betty boop schtick and chixie dix get awards for still whining about boring shit that happened 3 years ago. gay!

it's like a bad corporate christmas party. real staid and tired this year...it moved into the just another award show' realm some time ago but every once in a while it could have a great performance from someone.

Aguilera reached back for her best singing fastball about 100 times in that James Brown song...once would have been enough.

I didn't see the Police perform but I heard it could have used some viagra.

Linda Strawberry on the grammys:

the grammys are a joke

i dont mean this to be a negative dump. i want to rant on this because i care about music and have high hopes for the future.
i didnt even mean to watch the grammys but it was on in the background of the place i was eating at and so i got sucked into it.
i couldnt believe it. i sat in silent disbelief when i saw the dixie chicks win over and over for a lackluster record.....and the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS?? gimme a break.
if that record was really the best album of the year then we are truly in a sad state.
it wasnt though.
alot of good music came out last year... um.. where was regina spektor... muse.... etc.
it seems like not many artists even went.
i laughed out loud when i was reading a bob lefsetz email the other day when he was talking about the musicares tribute to don henley and how he went table by table and talked shit... the best was about Jimmy Iovine.. he said something like hey jimmy its funny that you are rolling in the money when most of your artists are starving..
that's what the NARAS has turned into. a bunch of old fossils who got rich back in the day who are to afraid to really look around because they dont want to rock the boat and lose their perks and bonuses and massive paychecks while they still exist.
that is what the labels are as well. old greedy bastards willing to cash in instead of innovate.
im happy they are dying. im happy that half the a&r's i knew last year are out of work this year.. not to mention half of the labels and half of the executives.
its a total joke now.
like someone wrote... "what the hell was lionel richie doing on stage singing a hit he had 23 years ago".... i was thinking the same thing.
its probably because the old fossils all voted and decided they should spice up the program with some oldies so that they can really continue to cash in on their catalog.
the grammys are the old music industry's grand facade...
it was pathetic though... i didnt find it very grand.
if that is music's biggest night... how come i didnt see many musicians there that actually matter? the number of movies stars equaled the number of musicians and the majority of those were the super pop variety.
so as all those people shake in fear at the subject of "what the new model is going to be" im enjoying it.
people want music more than ever. they actually own more music than ever. we all have ipods and huge music libraries and downloads.. we still love music. and this business has really nothing to do with the listener anymore.... the people who actually want to connect to something heart and soul.
i still love music as much as always if not more. it still matters to me to try and to fight and to work and to record and write whatever i can to try and connect.
as artists we need to not be afraid to do this on our own.
everyone i know has a deal or had a deal but i dont know many anymore that actually really want a deal....
even my friends at labels have to fight not to get railroaded or forgotten. i see most of them "changed" by some "industry expert".... really all those people are so out of touch.. its best to just create from the heart and strive for excellence..
and most established artists i know are part of the problem as well.. cashing in... planning on huge paychecks from festivals with ridiculously high ticket prices or squeezing the last few drops from labels...
if artists were really watching out for each other we could change all of this..
but everyone's too scared..
we are like battered housewives..
