Way has also said that his band patterns their career after that of The Smashing Pumpkins, another band they admire.

Thanks for raping the thread page with the GIGANTIC LETTERS FROM HELL.

MCR had a video about WWII, there Gerard looked a lot like Billy circa Today. Except he's like 5' tall or something, they're all pretty short

Alright song. Eh. Kinda. Not really a fan of anything off of Three Cheers.

I still don't understand the whole SP MCR thing ! honestly can someone explain to me what it's all about and how it all began. I'd heard a while back that people where saying that these kids were the new SP, or something to that affect, and when I watched that music video (well some of it) that funeral one, I was like WTF I just didn't get it; I just don't see/think/hear SP when I hear them, albeit, I've only ever heard a couple of their songs. In fact, whenever I see or hear anything about MCR it just makes me think SP is even greater/better/talented than I already do, and that MCR doesn't even comes close; SP is just on a whole other playing field than these guys, well this is just my honest opinion, but I guess I can't really speak since I know practically nothing about their (MCR's) music, whatever....

i don't think mcr sounds anything like sp. that said, the first time i heard mcr, i thought, I can tell these guys are influenced by sp. i can't say what it was, it was just a feeling i had about it, and it turned out to be true.

I don't really see any similarities between MCR and SP except Gerard and Billy look alike and Mikey is pretty much obsessed with SP... and in pretty much every interview mentioning influences, Gerard says Iron Maiden and SP. Musically though... not many similarities.

My favorite song is "Early Sunsets Over Monroeville." i luv it. just thought id tel u.

you know when i first saw the video for I'M NOT OK i was immediately reminded of the Smashing Pumpkins. It's really strange to see the kind of denial people have constructed to pretend like SP wasn't a dramatically angsty band that appealed to teenagers.

well the fact that you refuse to draw a line even though these guys praise the alter of SP on almost any given opprotunity

but it's like you pretend that because they are very similar in that way, the many other things that make up mcr are suddenly irrelevant. you make it an impossible discussion like say i don't like the guitar sound you go 'but sp was also a dramatically angsty band that appealed to teenagers!'. duh! it's so silly and it seems you're just doing it because you don't really like mcr so you can use them to attack the pumpkins by proxy or something. i mean i basically agree with what you're saying about things they have in common (and with a lot of other bands btw), but you keep repeating it and using it for arguments that go way beyond that

edit: just realizing this makes no sense. if i've decided that you're trolling then arguing with you is pretty useless. carry on

I'm Not Okay is such a horrible song, but I can't help but bounce around when I hear it.

I guess it's not SO horrible. Just kinda horrible.

no i don't mind MCR at all, because of the fact that if i was a teenager...i'd probably like MCR and then get retroactively into the Pumpkins because they keep talking about them.

i mean we're not talking about OMG THAY SOUND THE SAMESS i said they REMIND me of SP. Because they're derivative. It's really kind of easy to see the connects and I don't even really listen to MCR at all.

It works against them sometimes. Bands should take themselves seriously, more humbly, but seriously nonetheless. Cause otherwise they make bad music and they claim they're just having fun or something like that.

Yes, and if Billy Corgan didn't take himself seriously, I highly doubt Siamese Dream or MCIS would exist.

I'm pretty sure both SP and MCR have a degree of silliness and seriousness in them (especially back when SP were as new as MCR are now).

I dunno why you don't think MCR take themselves seriously... like it or not, The Black Parade is a pretty intricate album when you get right down to it and listen to it.

And before anyone jumps on me, let me explain that by "intricate" I don't mean worthy of being compared to MCIS or something. I'm just saying that a band without an ounce of seriousness about their music would never make an album like The Black Parade.
