It’s weird how Green Day feels like a 2000s band to me even though they were contemporaries of SP, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, etc.

They bleed 90s to me, and I still find them a fun counterpoint to grunge.

Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, and that whole "pop punk" brood kinda bridged the gap to full 2000s emo. That particular sound still tortures me at night.

Imagine liking Bowling For Soup

2000s emo Billie Joe will always be a mistery, their newfound success a glitch in the matrix.

But they’ll always be that incredible 90s band out of Gilman.

Well I wasn’t even alive for all of the 90s so I think that’s probably part of why I have a different perception of Green Day than y’all.

I've never listened to MCR. They were for teenagers with black eyeliner and that hair that went across one side of their face.

Me, a 90s grunge guy, was never gonna get onboard with that.

Even though I don't love MCR, I do find it unfair to lump them in with the generic '00s scene shit.

These guys were doing something different. Incorporating Queen, David Bowie, and Rush into their sound. And the dark aesthetic was always a playful one and never took itself seriously. Influenced by B-movies and horrorpunk and shit. They were leagues above Blessthefall or whatever else bullshit was happening at the time.

I just can't really get past Gerard Way's vocals, but these guys don't deserve to be shit on.

My problem with MCR is that their music is just a pastiche.

That's a boring-ass song, yeah. Not bad, just a little pop for my tastes.

I've never listened to MCR stuff past Black Parade, so I don't know that linked song. But even though I'm not an MCR fan or anything, if I'm going to listen to them, it's going to be more stuff like:
