XM Artist Confidential
Does anyone have the files for this session?
Want to do some remixing on it but the version on archive.org sounds like ass compared to this. |

Can you rip the audio from YouTube?

yeah that's possible, but when you upload a song to youtube it goes like this:
- mp3 source, likely ripped from webstream, probably not better than 128 or 192kbps - this gets put into a video, and when rendering that out the audio gets transcoded again to probably 128 or at best 320, which will still be lower quality than the initial source - then the video gets uploaded to youtube, and this gets compressed a third time by youtube's video conversion, and caps out at 128kbps so compressed mp3 source gets compressed again into video which gets compressed again by Youtube so while i could rip it from youtube, the fact that it exists on youtube means there IS a higher quality version than one i could get by ripping. i want to make it sound really nice but would be fighting an uphill battle if that was how i went about it. if i could get the initial version of this that was circulating then i would have the best chance of making it sound real good. i see a version of it was uploaded to thepumpkins.net years back. i think that version is probably the one used in these videos. |

That's really good. Did they do a whole set? Closest they would've come to an MTV unplugged show?
That has SP 1 vibes, esp the bridge. |

shit that sounds so good, what a cool session
i have come to the conclusion that albums are by nature overproduced bullshit, one should judge and listen to a band purely from live performances |

I have a version from 2009 that is titled "Conscience Sound Masters" in my archive. It sounds pretty great actually. Its better than the archive.org stuff.

ill be working on this over the next while, will compare the versions etc. i think with these songs, the residency songs and american gothic, a full acoustic album is possible |

I don't really understand what you're doing. How do you "remaster" something that you don't have the masters to?

on top of that, with AI tools you can split a recording into separate stems (bass, drums, vocals, other) and get finer control over the individual layers to adjust levels, rebalance elements or re-EQ just one particular layer etc. |

AI assisted tools are the way of the future. Look at what the Beatles estate are doing with their recent 5.1 stuff. All those songs were baked on 4 tracks (later just 8 for the last records).

the more shit "they" come out with, the more this era is emphasized as some kind of true epilogue to Smashing Pumpkins
this is great and something i can actually listen to, enjoying without "trying to" enjoy or at least find some kind of musical merit in that said, a little disappointed they never seemed to do a true "electric" version of FGaC, song was always so so but the rhythm section + those weird little synthlead things kinda made it - and even if they went a different direction with it as a live thing, i feel that one kinda needs more drive to work than the acoustic versions really gave it |

There’s a lot of trash in my car… a random CD-R of this specific show is there too. I wish I was kidding?
