I'm simply stating that I love a great chorus but that it doesn't matter to me if the chorus is really a main focus or if a song even has a "chorus" to begin with.

fuzzy needs clichéd anthemic choruses or else he can't cum

It's not that I don't "like it". I like it for what it is, and when I'm in the mood it really hits the spot... But it's far from some legendary album as far as I'm concerned. It's an important album, but it's certainly not a masterpiece.

I guess what I'm trying to say is; while I like it, I think it's incredibly overrated.

I really like the vibe of the music, I just wish they would have maybe honed in on it a little bit more and focused more on the songwriting instead of taking a "this is cool enough" approach.

what is it with this universal praise for Loveless.

I like it, but always liked Swervedriver, Ride, Slowdive more than MBV. why is that not acceptable, did I miss the memo on "never ever say you don't love MBV"?

I always feel pretty firmly like MBV stand in a different class to all the other shoegaze bands, probably 80% because of the production style. Loveless just has that ethereal wash to it... the very sound of it, the raw texture, is completely unlike all that has come before or since (give or take a few very specific attempts at replication) - it just feels lik they took the opportunity of wall-of-noise-amp-blowout-as-lead-melody and capitalised on it to as much as is possible with little regard for genre or trend. And to me, that's how you go about creating genuinely genre-pushing stuff within the increasingly limited returns rock music can deliver.

just want to use this opportunity to say this is the best MBV song with Sometimes:

But then i end up wishing that all their songs were that catchy.

Still makes no sense

Pavement has pretty standard catchy choruses for the most part.

Seriously what majorly attracts me to MBV is that aside from stuff like Loomer (which is still great) the songs are incredibly catchy pop

The bare bones of the songs are very solid but simple

If "I only said" doesn't have a super earwormy guitar hook then I don't what does

Russell Lissack - he play(ed?) in Bloc Party. The band got really out there and not so good after Silent Alarm, but one constant has been his guitar playing where he's either doing batshit crazy effect stuff or really clean melodic leads. Huge influence on teen me.

Lindsey Buckingham - I saw Fleetwood Mac twice (last month most recently) and he just shut it down both times. Really impressive.

Billy Corgan - He played in the Smashing Pumpkins and did neat rock and roll things.

Kevin Shields - really, who could ever beat that tone?

And I'll throw in Robert Smith. I wonder how many times he's noodling around and goes "oh shit I already used that"

probably

You guys are ridiculous. I simply share my point of view regarding MBV being overrated and the idiot brigade featuring the 2-headed monster of Elph/Trots lash out at me for "trolling". As if its impossible not to be just floored by the muddy noise of MBV.

I just like little elements of surprise in songwriting. You hear the first minute in a MBV song and you've heard it all. Again, I'm not here saying I don't like some of it... But it is what it is.
