It doesn't sound like Billy shouting "WTF" etc. He's sitting beside D'arcy throughout and the echo on the voice sounds like someone in the background.

Huh? It’s clearly Bill yelling. To me the whole segment is amusing. Whether he’s seriously pissed or not idk.

It's clearly the interviewer.

It’s 100% Billy but OK. It’s definitely not Billy. But it is though. Even though it’s not.

I sometimes think that 1992 billy was constantly pissed off and miserable because Nirvana was hitting it big and he wasn't and they (butch vig precisely) "ripped off" his guitar sound or something (I remember him saying exactly that at one point).
seriously, there's that one 1991 interview that surfaced recently and it's recorded before nevermind came out and in there he seems legitimately more approachable and less of an asshole (and the band itself too)

Didn't all 4 of them have problems with some other Chicago bands? I've definitely heard D'Arcy shit on other bands (Pearl Jam and Guns N' Roses, and she reacted as if she didn't like the Red Hot Chili Peppers in an interview from 1991).

Who in their right mind could possibly like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, though?

I'm talking specifically about Billy talking shit about Chicago bands and the music scene in Chicago, early on in the band's career, while they were still mostly only playing in Chicago. It's so stupid and arrogant, no wonder they had a bad reputation and didn't "fit in" when Billy was needlessly trying to bring down other artists, instead of fostering mutual support.

I don't know about Jimmy James or D'arcy saying anything about Chicago bands, other than acknowledging that they weren't well liked or didn't fit in. Billy seems to be the common denominator in all the antagonism, the others just sort of stood by him.

I think Billy's reaction to the Chicago scene was maybe from the way they were treated before he said or did anything arrogant possibly? It seems like the scene didn't really accept them because they didn't fit in with whatever little thing was cool at the time whether it was noise rock, indie, or wax trax. I know just from having a band and playing in the scene here that other bands are not very supportive of anyone outside their immediate circle of friends. It's hard to be a band on the outside and break in to get gigs when you're not in a certain circle. And if anyone thinks you're good they don't want to play with you because nobody wants to be upstaged.

Of course a lot of it could also stem from what Albini said in that one article how SP had some sleazy manager early on and got put on all the big national shows as the opener. It seems like that offended a lot of the other local bands that SP was getting opportunities that nobody else was getting.

The other 3 members of SP apparently. I synched up where they talk about RHCP. Watch until about 8:55 to get all 4 of their thoughts on RHCP. D makes it clear she's not a fan lol.

We may have just discovered why the band's ability to produce decent music is directly proportionate to her involvement.

this is not great evidence. what do you think they will say about a band that they are supporting on tour soon while doing a music interview? "no they suck, we hate them. we are just doing it for the exposure".

no one gave a genuine enthusiastic answer, it all seems like pretty standard meaningless polite praise.

At this point, they're more likely to tour in support of Dave Navarro as he is suspended from hooks at a series of nightclub appearances throughout a handful of medium population cities in two particular states.

none of them seem thrilled about rhcp. Jimmy's answer was funny.

I surprised myself and actually watched the relevant few seconds of the video.

In conclusion, all four of them despise that awful band like anybody with taste would.

Jimmy actually listed RHCP as one of his favorite bands in an interview, he’s not faking. I don’t think Billy is either, he seemed genuine. I could definitely see James being diplomatic; RHCP’s “porno funk” style (as Ram said) hardly seems up his alley. I do find it funny how D’Arcy didn’t even try to hide that she disliked them.

The interview in question. Either the interviewer made a mistake or Jimmy passed himself off as three years younger cause he was born in 1964.

Do we all hate Jimmy (and Squish Squash, if truth be told) for liking shitty porno funk?
