William Patrick Corgan - Archer (Appreciation Thread)
I weep for love and it's surreal
Goodbye, dear one, I haven't given up I'm just the archer for the sun Where forever is undone... |

Great jam. Handily in the top 5 he's written from the reunion in 2007 to now.
Solid live version here that didn't get aired, and didn't make the rounds quite like it should have: |

I love that song. It had a Gish vibe, something like Crush. Even the production is great.

I felt like sharing this song, because it's actually helping me get through the death of a dearly loved one.

His lyrics are meaningless. And that’s fine. Looking for deep meanings is futile. The whole June / Glass stuff is for teenagers and sadmachines.

This is pretty cool, esp. at 3:34, when the camera angle cuts out LS. |

gish is youthful, naive, and completely free. archer (and ogilala in general) are somber, disillusioned, matured, and declining. |

It's unquestionably the best song he's put out since perhaps 2007. Got this Echo & The Bunnymen feel to it, and the lyrics seem to evoke the realization that no matter how hard he tries he'll never hit the heights he once did. It feels earnest and heartfelt, like good SP should.

It’s as if the muse is intact, somewhere in the terahertz of the singularity
Must be frustrating! As a songwriter To have it reappear, as it was, perfect and complete, for a song like this But then....where does it go off to, when/will it return |

While I don't think it's the BEST song he's written since 2007, but it's easily one of his most earnest. I think that's what makes songs like this one and other winners (see: Stellar) is that sincerity that can't be faked, which makes the old SP so awesome, is there. I'm no recording artist, but noticed in the liner notes that Archer was mixed and mastered at a different time than the rest of the tracks. Logic tells me that he recorded it after the rest and did what it took to get it onto the album, knowing it was a gem. |
