for what it's worth, at about the halfway mark right now I can say it's not really your typical Apatow offering (in the vein of his Rogen/Franco movies, at least. not so far removed from something like Freaks & Geeks.) it seems to lie quite a bit heavier on the drama than the comedy, which is very matter-of-fact & not obvious "laugh points" or anything like that. if you like Pete Davidson I don't think you'll be too disappointed given this is essentially his 8 Mile, & i was really surprised how good of an actor Bill Burr is, given that the only other roles I can remember seeing him in were bits on the Chapelle Show. but here he's holding his own alongside a seasoned pro like Tomei, how much of his character is a "Bill Burr type" is up to you, I guess

from the dance onward, i mostly enjoy it. but the beginning is brutal

also.. kind of curious, as it's never really explained.. what's the deal with the friendship btwn marty and doc? not clear to me

John Mulaney has a pretty good bit about their friendship/that movie

in short, i don't think it's quite clear to anyone

simple take: marty looked for a job and answered an ad to take Einstein on walks, then he thought the doc was cool cause he builds lots of shit (including a huge guitar amp) and he offered to take care of more stuff for him for extra money and they became buds. i guess.

I don't know, C-? I appreciate when a movie takes a while to bring in the actual thriller/horror elements in, but the fact that *spoiler* it didn't have anything to do with the main characters we'd been watching in that said lead-up felt like a bit of a letdown *spoiler*
