"Neophyte" sounds promising. It seems to actually build to a decent chorus. Hard to make out anything happening in "Harmageddon".

Funny it's apparently a Cyr leftover when it sounded better than 75% of Cyr.

billy's been clear. synth songs are part of the SP DNA, it's one of the many incarnations of the band.

i know that you know that appels + oranjes, as well as its predecessor what if, are fundamentally better songs than anything we've heard from atum thus far... i know that you are musically savvy enough to understand that as not opinion, but objective fact from the basis of songwriting, arrangement, and performance... you are allowed to enjoy the new music and even speak your praise about it, but you are only doing yourself a disservice by trying to make such a comparison

in addition, billy wasn't insecure enough about the adore tracks to babble on and on about their deeper meaning as a connection to earlier works, spending more time coming up with an excuse for its existence than writing and editing the songs themselves

You are completely missing what I’m saying.

And don’t tell me what I know. I know more than you, I know that much.

I loved every song on Adore when it came out. A+O was one of my favs. It's got good melody, good emotion, good lyrics, etc. The last three albums have fucking sucked with no memorable or good songs. It's sad how some fans seem to force themselves to like the new stuff instead of being honest.

this is not force, I genuinely remember fans bashing on that song as hard as they are the new ones. point being a lot of fans have not liked the synth direction for a long time.

with that said i remember machina being absolutely hated here. for a long time. now everyone is begging for the reissue. the idea that it was and still is a loved album is weird to me, because I was here in 2000 reading the constant bashing of the machina material. I was one of those fans tbh, and I find Machina 1 to still be a grating listen in some instances. Much preferred Machina 2.

also it's weird for one fan to accuse another fan of being dishonest if they disagree with their view of the new material.

I like some of the new stuff. I'm no dolt in denial that it's on the same level/better than the obvious classics, but there's room to give the new material a chance. For me every album since zeitgeist has had at least 3 songs I like, minus teargarden and monuments.

I love Machina, always have, but do feel like some people only want the reissue for collection/completion's sake

I quite enjoyed Appels + Oranjes.
Though I can't say the same for I Of The Mourning. I never liked that track.
Adore was the last great Pumpkins record.

jimmy doing HH clicks along to the empires guitar intro was the most 'old SP' sounding thing in a while

stop playing to a click; stop playing to backing tracks. no one cares, it's not fun, it's bad

It's not my choice either, but I've definitely seen it said here and in other Pumpkins spaces

Appels & Oranjes was fine. My problem was that "What If?" was far superior

Yeah, Harmageddon sounds pretty good. It's chuggy, but later into the song I can hear some Superchrist and XYU.

When's the last time we had a Porcelina-type song? Maybe the Oceania title track? That's the stuff I miss the most.

It hurts me on a spiritual level to have Porcelina and Oceania compared like that. I guess Corgan is right, that eventually all his work is going to be considered classic years down the line. I refuse.

Oceania is NOT Adore.. half the songs on Oceania suck dick.

However, Oceania DOES have some good songs on it.. which is something that sets it apart form the last three "SP" albums

Do I need to start using "tone: sarcastic " or something? This is the second time this week I've been taken too seriously. Obviously Adore is better, and I'm not the biggest fan of that album.

BUT there's been a noticeable appreciation for Oceania recently, 10 years later. And the album was ripped to utter shreds at the time of release. So that's the same trajectory as all the albums post MCIS. Whose to say CYR won't be thought of as filled with hidden gems after the next 4 terrible albums?

What If? was nice, but at the same time, it is also lyrically/musically inferior to Appels + Oranjes. What If? definitely sounds like an unfinished demo that needed some more development. There is a power behind Appels that keeps the song driving forward. What If? just kinda plods along. Also, the chorus is way more developed in Appels.
