spent the last couple days listening to the "intimate and interactive" canadian broadcast and it's so good. for some reason they cut (in the video) a stinging version of PUG out for an interview segment.

The live performances of Adore and Adore era versions of songs saved what is otherwise a generic and boring album. They were still a band that rocked at the end of the say. Just watch the linked performance of Daphne Descends, then try to listen to it on Spotify if you can make it through the whole thing.

Watching these videos makes me sad because I can't stand to listen to anything post-Zeitgiest.

Adore is a very good album how dare you. Ava Adore, Crestfallen, Daphne Descends, For Martha, To Sheila, and Perfect are all classics.

You could say “what happened to this guy?” about pretty much any rock star in their fifties. They get old and generally don’t produce material as good as their younger days. Billy just won’t go quietly into that good night.

At least in theory it seems like SP could be making their best stuff now just because their musicianship and range was so high plus they didn't have to rely personality/attitude to make it as a band. They could definitely develop their core sound further if they wanted to, but obviously they don't have much interest in that.

I look at Andy Bell and Mark Gardener et al and I see they still look cool, their voices are exactly the same as they were, their live shows are fantastic, they really love their fans, and they make new music on a par, if not better at times, than their original music. And I'm excited to hear what they are going to do next.

Yes I'm talking about RIDE. The only reformed 90s band who are doing it right.

Andy Bell's years as a sideman probably humbled him a bit.

William's been in a solo ego trip for most of his life. Time flies when you're a piece of shit lol

Andy Bell was never really egocentric though. Sure he had his 70s rock period and his Oasis-wannabe period with Hurricane #1 but for the most part just kept his head down and got on with it.

At the same time the difference is probably to do with sales and fame; Ride never really sold much nor would they have been particularly famous outside of indie / weekly music paper circles. Certainly not compared to BC and the Pumpkins.

Then again, he's probably just a nice well rounded kind of guy.

MBV also doing it right. Released a good album, played some good shows, did what people were gonna respond to.

Interesting to see everyone’s perception of the Adore live shows. I’ve always absolutely loved them. The beautiful guitar arrangements, the lively percussion and the piano improvisations.

Yeah that's probably a major factor, they've always been more into Swervedriver league (another great comeback) than SP league.

But not being a self-centered POS certainly helps.
