Is the rest of the album as soppy as Pioneer to the Falls? That song has me scared that the major label change means more Coldplayisms.

This abum reminds me of Antics.
Those expecting a return to the dark times of TOTBL will be disapointed, while Antics lovers will have other good times. |

wow... how about these last couple of tracks? completely different direction, but i like it. i wonder if they'll make more songs like this with their next album. that closer especially was different, but i thought it was good.
the 5 tracks i had already heard before this i still enjoy, with maybe the all fired up being my least favorite. pioneer is a great opener, i love the scale, mammoth sounds great on the album(it reminds me a lot of a new track by radiohead called open pick), all fired up is ok and has a good chorus, heinrich maneuver took some time but i enjoy it, and rest my chemistry is solid(i preferred this track live, though). of the new ones ive heard, pace is the trick feels like a real grower, i love how it ends. grabs me kind of like the end of obstacle 1 did. no i in threesome is really laid back, almost like a mix of NYC and obstacle 2. i like the way who do you think picks up. all in all i think this is a little better than antics but not as good as turn on the bright lights. i still have to listen to it more, but im a huge fan of antics and i really enjoyed that album. this will probably end up as one of my fav albums of the year, i want to listen to it more. when you listen get ready for a change in interpol's sound with the last 2 tracks. |

It's a pretty solid album. Reminds me more of TOTBL than Antics. On a side note, I'm curious as to how many here dislike Antics. I personally love it but many consider it the low point in their career.

I'm only up to Mammoth and I'm really struggling, this seems so boring. These guys should sound so much better then this, what the fuck happened?
Blah, I'll give it more listens and then decide but I hate it when the first listen actually annoys me. And his lyrics on this are so terrible as well, to the point where I'm finding it way harder to look past them like usual. |

I really liked the last song but 'boring' is just about the right word for the rest. Will listen to it again today.

I've struggled to listen to it all the way through twice.
After hearing Heinrich Maneuver awhile ago I thought 3 albums in and they still are playing with the same sounds, however after now hearing the full album they did seem to change their formula a few times (Mammoth - mainly for vocal delivery / Pace is the Trick / Wrecking Ball / Lighthouse). That being said the other songs they do seem to be rehashing the old Interpol sound. There are a few songs where they seem to be stealing little guitar riffs / sounds from their previous efforts (ex. Rest my Chemistry). Interpol lyrics have always been mainly non-nonsensical but they also had lines within a song that were gems (ex. the New), this album the vocals seem more prominent (there is much less of the hard driving bass up front and more vocals & jangly guitar) and the lyrics really hit you with how bad they are whereas before the vocal delivery alongside the music made the lyrics less important. IMO TOTBL is a great album, Antics is solid but this is their first 'bad' album. Too many times I wanted to just skip to the next song. If you have the patience there are moments within these songs that make your ears stand up but you have to listen to alot of 'noise' to get to the gems. It just meanders too much for me. |
