Default Need some ears on this cover before I release it.

I ended up re-recording parts of this one and got some new gear/plugins. I believe I will put this one out via Distrokid licensed and paying royalties through there so I need some extra ears on it before I do so.
Any mix suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I love the instrumental mix, seems solidly balanced to my ears. Maybe a slight bump to the vox. Not really a fan of the kick drum sample, though. This cover kicks ass!

I downloaded your file and with the mix being so tight I simply added some mid-range clarity, very mild widening there, too. Boosted it slightly as it seemed a little quiet on my monitors. Really phenomenal recording!

Wicked cover. Agree with Avery, first thing I thought was the kick was just a little too processed. I understand what you are going for - but it's just a little too tight for me, i think there's room in the mix for it to be a little lighter on the high end and wider in the low. The rest is great fun though. Great stuff. Love the guitar space sounds and such. gg as always.

Thank you guys for helping my blown out ears. Should I widen the low/mids some? I usually only widen the high mids and highs. Leave the lows down the middle for clarity. Running Ozone 10 on my master bus.

the background vocals in the opening are a bit too blasty

that snarly guitar tone during the "straaaange" outro is real nice

Synths are too loud
Kick drum too loud
Tempo too fast

Took all of the advice in here and finished it up tonight.
Lowered synths, reworked the kick, put a small hint of the low mids stereo and very slight amount of lows stereo. A bit of air to the vocals too.

I've listened to both mixes on decent desktop speakers but can give it a go on monitors if you want. I think the second mix is clearer and the drums sound better but the guitars still lack some punch to me. Could be my set up but I might play around with how far out the rhythm guitars and panned to see if they come through bigger.

That would be great if you have time to check it on monitors. I panned the guitars hard and used some stereo enhancement on the Ozone software.

If i remember right that's the Reverend BC1 with the VH4 and a gritty free plugin called Burier. It's awesome for carving frequencies.

i mean the main thing that jumps out to me as a negative is the drum sound - it sounds overtly artificial to me. the other stuff is quite good, it's a clever one to put on spotify since "Billups the Bozo" himself doesn't even have the original on there, but that's just the Marketing Goldberg in me talking...

bare in mind i'm p critical on drum sounds in general your average "Dick & Larry" will not have the same take I can almost guarantee you

Yeah I’d swap out the kick and snare samples for something a bit more natural. I still think the tempo is rushed. You could drop it a few BPM in your DAW and still keep everything at pitch without any ill effect.

I'll dink around a bit more on the drums and try the bpm drop on Cubase. I think CB Pro can do that without degrading everything. Never tried it though.

What an awesome cover! I love it as it is (the last version shared, didn't listen to the previous one). Congratulations. I love the way you went at 2:37 - 2:51.

I can do a bit of humanizing to them in Cubase.

You're work is awesome.

Listened to both samples. Second one was better. I keep hearing the artificial kick drum tho. It's still too high in the mix IMO. And it's really punchy/ tight. Like knocking on a hard wood door. Just feel like it needs to be softer sounding.

My 2 cents. Everything else sounds amazing.

Thanks for checking it out. I finally had to force myself to complete and commit. I get a bit insane after 8-10 mixes!

this rocks. the only criticisms I can come up with are the vox sound a little dry on mix 1 and the guitars are not as monstrous on mix 2, but like was said above the difference would be imperceptible to the average listener.

really good job, I'll definitely be bumping this again
