This actually kind of sounds like the Smashing Pumpkins, which is crazy to say given the stuff he's been putting out for the last two decades.

I'm sure it will be ruined in the studio with crappy production and his vocals cranked to 11

Sounds like the same quasi-metal riff he’s been trying to do since Oach and MTaE. It’s Wyttch again. Sounds like a cliche Muse riff.

Yep. Any remotely heavy riff and people are like “OMGGGG MY NAME
IS RAM. JC JIZZ UNHHHHH” |

It doesn't hold up to SP1 or anything but it's definitely better than the dreck we've been getting. He shouldn't repeat the word Empires so much though.

It just seems like a lesser As Rome Burns or something. That kind of vaguely faux-metal riffage that he can just pump out all day long but that is kind meaningless and boring.

Maybe it's just cause I'm just so used to him releasing elevator music.

Old Pumpkins… the Beguiled riff and spacey chorus would have been organically woven into a track like Empire so there was progression and variety.
Empire will sound like Wytch on record cos it’s Bill. |

Meh, riff was OK as a jam but not sure it's strong enough to carry a full song

Pumpkins never stand still, Billy’s always trying new things, the haters just don’t like it cos they change their sound.
= Pumpkins pumping out the least imaginative generic numetal rock riff for the hundredth time, with horribly produced drums, vox, synths twenty years straight. Disclaimer: I’ll still listen to ATUM and in a year I’ll probably tell you it’s their best post-Machina album. Corgan has me by the balls. I hate myself. |

It's basically Marchin' on with a melody and chorus.. so not too bad.. it sounds like something that could have been on Pistachio Medley but not something that would have been good enough to make MCIS, etc.

The difference between this song and the other recent "heavy" songs I've heard is that this one seems more influenced by alt metal/doom metal/tiny bit of Metallica-like thrash, instead of sounding more like hard rock/glam metal.
It's not an amazing track, but being more in line with the traditional Pumpkins brand of being dark, moody, and heavy already makes it better by miles than "Solara" or "Beguiled." This is, like, that 2007-2008-era after Zeitgeist where the music wasn't as good as SP1, but still listenable and it seemed like they were on track toward getting good again if they just kept on their trajectory. You know, "Gossamer," "As Rome Burns," "Superchrist," even "G.L.O.W." all not really quite scratching the itch, but sounding pretty all right. And then Teargarden happened and all hope was lost and the band has never righted course since. |

Well, Oceania was superior to Teargarden, but it doubled down on the gonadless soft rock/adult contemporary aspects with not enough dangerous or artsy shit, so even with the improvement from his previous effort, it wasn't really enough to get me to stick around and buy his subsequent albums to see if he would make marginal improvements or regress. Especially after firing his band AGAIN and pretty much doing his next album with session musicians and Tommy Lee. I was just done with the band after that and have only checked out the singles and stuff posted here and haven't purchased the albums.

That's still so funny to me. Can you imagine Tommy Lee playing in SP in the 90s? Lmfao
