Default Billy's Diezel Herbert (amp)settings

I took this in NYC. For this tour he was running a Palmer DI box from the amp to the board + a mic on his cab. I'm guessing they blended them both unless the DI was backup or something. Sounded huge. He kept the Mid-cut off the whole show.(Maybe the LED was out?) When he switched to clean the amp used the master volume 2. Enjoy.

hate the tone from that amp. puke.

c'mon billy, doesn't mean it's a 5000$ amp that it's worth a damn.

I wanted one since using it in a studio in 2003. Decided to drop the coin on one earlier this year.(Used for $2900) 2008 model with an external bias so i can use whatever tubes i want. With a nice Mesa cab with Vintage 30s it's totally unstoppable. It's so versatile that i'm using it in a pop punk band right now. It can definitely go from country/blues to death metal with ease.

Billy's settings are super trebly. I guess he does that because he wears earplugs on stage and they move the mic over a bit to compensate.. That's the only thing i can figure out.

I've seen countless reports (at least 15 different people) that the Herbert doesn't cut through in a band setting. That's one of the things that makes me think twice about getting one. My 6505+ totally dominates in a band setting and I couldn't really imagine the Herbert being that much better for heavy tones

The only reason people have trouble with it cutting is because they overdo it with the mid-cut. 100% user error. I can assure you that this amp is the best money i've ever spent on any piece of gear and i've owned craploads of vintage and modern amps. It covers our other guitarist's Marshall rig in the band setting with the mid-cut off so sometimes i set it to around 9 o clock at the most if needed at practice.

Do you have any live videos of your new band with the Herbert in action that I could check out?

Nope. I wanted a Herbert since 2003. 4 years before B0lly used it. He had a VH4 from 1999-2003 and i hated that amp. The one i rented in LA sounded like steril garbage.

I dunno. I always associated the american sound with Mesa or Peavey. The Diezel in person has this insane bite that i've only heard from German stuff. Engl has the same super saturated yet clear thing going on. I considered a Peavey 6505+ to layer with it but i just can't justify it right now since i still have my rack gear.

it sounds german, not american.

i'm a bigger fan of British amps anyways. gimme a cranked Marshall, Vox, Hiwatt or Orange amp any day of the week.

I'm also more of a british fan than american. The Herbert layers amazingly with Marshalls. Hopefully i'll get to try it with an Orange Rockerverb one day.

Don't knock em til you try them in person. They'll give you a bad case of GAS. I've been eyeballing the Engl Fireball for a while now too.
