I don't think MSTOS is bad. I enjoy it.

I do think his decision to blot out all of the beautiful guitars by Pajo and Sweeney was a huge indication of him losing his fucking mind and allowing his hubris to hurt the music in a major way that would repeat itself over and over again for years to come! lol.

Also...this is unrelated...but as far as MACHINA, I think it's my favorite SP/Billy album. Objectively, SD or MCIS are his strongest works. But I find the artistic boldness of MACHINA to be on par with anything a major rock artist has ever done.

The courageous way he basically lays bare his personality disorder traits* through the music (and the very obtuse presentation, which serves as a vehicle for the listener to actually experience the psychic chaos of someone who is severely personality disordered both mentally and emotionally) is a massive triumph.

It's brilliant.

*I can't diagnose Billy obviously. I'm using "personality disorder traits" as a proxy for whatever his personal/psychological issues are although I do clearly have some educated (and compassionate) thoughts about where he might be land in terms of a diagnosis.
