Perfect was written as a direct sequel so I guess it's "shameless" in that it's part of the artistic intent

I mean we've been over this before, but what you hear in 1979 that carried forward was present in their sound from the beginning. If you mean in a broader respect that Corgan started moving his 80s influences forward, I think that started on MCIS but 1979 is just one stepping stone on that path.

Yes, and this is what feels the most disrespectful. He says old fans who hang around and criticize his music aren't "real fans," but the people he thinks are real fans are brainless teenyboppers who heard some hit songs on the radio and came to his shows cause SP was hot at the moment. Why is it so important for him to gain recognition among people who the next year were packing stadiums for the spice girls or whatever is beyond me

1979 is great. Perfect is great. Adore is great.

teg blows due to that godawful rant.

I like TEG a lot, despite the rant. It's a fucking rocker, and the outro is insane.

Perfect is definitely intentionally a sequel to 1979 sonically, although thematically they are not close at all. I can't think of any other song that purposely recreates the sound of 1979 in that manner though.

it didn't age poorly, it started out poorly. people grew to appreciate it, that's fine. i'm not one of them. i like bad music too, but it doesn't pretend to be good.

First time I heard Adore I was getting sucked off in the bathroom in 8th grade. I head headphones on.

I came after that twilight fades part

Adore was always simply alright.

It wasn't the abomination people made it out to be at the time and it's certainly not the masterpiece that some fans make it out to be now. It's a somber emotional record with a handful of great songs, a handful of okay songs and a few shit songs. It was certainly their weakest release to date at the time, which isn't really saying much.

Tear and Annie-Dog are shitty songs on Adore.

Tear and Annie-Dog would be awesome songs for 2018 SP. lol

I love Tear.

Annie Dog should've been on a separate disk with Once And A While and Czarina.

as far as lethargic-sounding Bill songs, Annie-Dog i'd say was the best of those 3

btw, that interlude in TEG is one of the most Bill Corgan things I can think of, I don't get how some of you who hate him being in that defiant, nasal "fuck you" mode so much can even listen to post-SD pumpkins for more than like 15 minutes at a time, really. song itself rocks beyond belief, 'specially the outro as rbg stated earlier

I think SP could have done more with that disco cybermetal sound as well, but interestingly they never really touched on that specific blend of sounds again. TEG is the only heavy song on Machina where I would say the production plays to the song's strengths

np: yeah I have to say, Everlasting Gaze is kind of an underrated song. This is one of the best heavy riffs Bill has written IMO. And then when it goes into the chorus and the whole thing gets whooshy and synthed out... that sonic change sends chills down my spine.

Adore, the last great Pumpkins record.
And no, Machina as it was released was a big misstep and feels unfocused and more like a collection of random tracks.

Just gonna put this right here:

Disc 1
Heaven
Perfect
Waiting
LMGTWTY
Once in a While
To Sheila (Banjo)
Crestfallen
What if?
Pistol Pete
Blank Page(early)
Indecision
Blissed and Gone (Judas O)

Disc 2
It's Alright
Eye
Ava Adore
Daphne Descends
Pug
Behold!
Do you close your eyes? (outtake)
Once Upon a Time
For Martha
Valentine
Shame

I remove Tear and Annie dog completely. I don't really get Czarina. It has all of the elements that should make it a good song but something about it just doesn't click for me. Wouldn't put it on any Adore.

Yeah, it's really not a very enjoyable listen. I just take the few songs that I like from it and dispose of the rest. If you look at my Ipod I have: Ava Adore, Shame, For Martha and Behold the Night Mare. The rest, eh... It's okay sometimes. I don't see what all of the fuss is about though.

So I didn’t realise that Celebrity Skin actually sold better than Adore. Courtney and Billy should have formed a supergroup omg

That could still be worth watching, two ancient divas fighting for the spotlight, pushing each other out of the way, fishnets and sparkling capes all flashing in a beautiful spectacle of ego and spite

Worth the price of admission

I think it was partly my age and gender, I was an 18 year old female when those albums came out, and Courtney was this jaded older sister figure who’d been there and done that and fucked all the hot rock stars and played to stadiums and been widowed by a visionary genius drug addict and then blamed for his death, even accused of murder....at that point, in 1998, to me...she just had a more interesting story to tell, than Billy did. I liked her lyrics more than his, and I liked the hooks he wrote for her, and paired them with. I still like Celebrity Skin, though I didn’t like the production on that, either.
