Avalanche - Ok.

Empires - Bad. Dunno if it's the song or the production but it's got zero NRG. It's fine as part of the album though. It needs a rocker right here and, well, here's something that vaguely resembles a rock song.

Neophyte - Run2Me. Sounds similar to "Sweet Harmony" by The Beloved but isn't as good.

Moss - Great.

Nightwaves - Ok.

Spaceage - Great++.

Every Morning - Good.

To The Grays - Ok.

Beguiled - Good. But there's some high freq splash.wav in the left channel on the heavy DUH DUH DUHDUH DUH! bits that drives me up the wall

Some of the songs don't have it but they mostly sound good and interesting so it's a worthwhile listen.

I took a long hiatus from the Pumpkins after I tried to listen to Cyr and gave up. Then I heard Beguiled a few months back and mostly liked it but forgot all about them again until last week. Listened to Atum 1&2 and... ehh, it's a mixed bag at best. I don't hate it but like someone else here said, it's a "rock opera" without enough rock. I like most of the heavier tracks but even those are typically too short and some have some really poor lyrics. And most of the lighter, synth stuff is just atrocious. I try not to put too much stock in song titles (hell, my favorite Zwan song is "Yeah!") but as soon as I saw a song titled "Hooray!", I knew we were in trouble. I guess I should just be glad "Every Morning" wasn't a fucking Sugar Ray cover.

It just floors me that this, Cyr and Shiny are the best efforts that 3/4 of the original lineup could come up with. I still put most of the blame on Billy but I also fault Jimmy and James for not being embarrassed to play some of this shit.
