so basically you're saying that this music from the 90s sounds like music from the 90s

I can't abide the use of the word awesome to describe any Canadian music.

Depends what phase of his career we're talking about. ALso cohen is more a lyricist than a musician.

Obviously there are exceptions but they are too few to change the fact that as a general rule, we canadians shouldn't pick up instruments.

It's a good tune, The same song was on an album before this one but was reworked for the major label release. The major label one I posted is way better in my opinion

Did you happen to find the album? It was pretty hard to find online last time I checked. The album also features an awesome cover of Cyndi Laupers time after time- It's definitely worth checking out, I was trying to find it on Youtube to share here but no one had it uploaded.

Their (complete?) discography is on Pirate Bay in FLAC. Three albums. I couldn't find the re-release of Sold For a Smile with the Cyndi Lauper song and the revamped version of First Day though. I was a bit let down, their music is really inconsistent. There are a few real heavy hitters across the three records but probably nothing else as good as First Day. I can't decide which version I like better. The rock version definitely rocks, but the earlier version is so 1994 I could die

Yeah I feel ya. Sold for a smiles really the only album I really liked. The original album with First day is pretty spotty and I didn't even know they had an album before that lol.

If only these were our only offenses.

There is not enough good music from Canada to make up for all the shit.

This is my opinion and I respect it.

Alanis Morissette? Avril Lavigne? Rush? They're not bad, are they?

LOL Out of all the great Canadian artists out there you happen to mention hacks like Alanis Morissette and Avril Lavagine?

I don't care for Rush at all but yet I find throwing them in with Alanis Morissette and Avril Lavigne is still kinda criminal.

and yeah I can't wait to see douchebag and the slut's babies. And by can't I mean I hope to be spared the sight of this grotesquerie.

this argument or whatever that is happening about canadian music is retarded. of course only the major blowout material would make it to the states/the rest of the world.

for example there are tons of amazing australian bands from the 80s that only made very minor impressions in the states/overall charts.

split enz, mondo rock, marc hunter/dragon, matt finish, the church, nzpop

but then again what everyone knows is INXS

I just double checked and Aussie pop includes NZ bands but to be fair above I wrote "Australian bands". My bad. Good eye.

Aussie refers to Australia, never New Zealand.
