Surprised so many of you are liking this, it's still wrestling music

Honest question; not trying to be glib or sarcastic. What makes you say that? I liked this performance of the song MUCH more than the single (which is the norm these days with Smashing Pumpkins), but there was nothing here that seemed any more like a "band" than their television appearances since James returned.

I know you didn't ask me, but this song, despite some of it's shortcomings, does sort of feel like a "statement of intent" kind of song. That's why it sounds like wrestling music: it is anthemic. The main character walks into the ring during this song, and the song has that as an ethos. It's similar to Bullet... this is a "despite all my rage" kind of song. Cyr absolutely did not have that kind of song; it's been a long time since they've done this kind of song. It's encouraging to see them pull this kind of song off convincingly in a live setting. Exciting, even. Is it a show? Yeah, maybe. But isn't that the point?? Return the faith!

There seems to be a direction. It's coherent. God I'm about to be so disappointed, aren't I?

seeing a mild performance like this makes me question if SP even ever had "it"

he seems like he's giving 10% effort

like i get it - you've transitioned from a band that used to rock skulls to a band that just - uh - not even sure to be honest

wipe off the makeup, take off the costume, and just play really good music for the love of god.

you don't have to be the vampire man to come up with a half-decent riff

The obsession over bill’s makeup, outfits, weight and general appearance is so odd to me.

Who cares if he’s wearing a dress? We need the guy to write a chorus.

Don't mind the dresses at all, noone really complained about the '99 or Machina ones

The tune is just so basic

This band is so boring to watch. Jack Bates always looks like he's waiting for a bus.

I can’t figure out why he has a 90s snarl on his vocals here not on the song. I can’t figure out why the guitars are thicker here than on record. I can’t figure out why the pre chorus has that epic fuzzy pre chorus that the song doesn’t get on record.

Why has this been going on since 2007? Is it a great song? It’s fine. But everything they put out sounds so fucking cheap, like it was just slapped together. Would it kill these guys to track a song live in studio? Fuck

yea he can wear what he wants as long as he's bringing it.

problem is, he's not bringing it so it appears foolish. it's like a wall between the audience and good music.

This song does so much right, but in the end it is boring. It could have used more writing.
(But not too much writing, like Tarantula)

This is retconning just as bad as billy

It’s only “the rat in a cage song” because 90s rawk fans with no nuance see it that way… in reality it’s one of their best songs and near perfect pop songwriting… gotta love that menacing verse -> massive pop chorus thing they were really trying to nail at this time

"retconning" seems to be the name of the game over here these days

please someone else make another "enlightened" post about how maybe they were never good because they've put out a shitty single in 2022, lol

and there was always a faction of Intelligent Fans who shat on BWBW. those people would look just as dumb hating on it now if it actually came out as is from 1995 though of course, how and why the fuck would that happen? what a weird impossible theoretical

The majority of songs Billy wrote during the Gish, Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie eras are god tier. And he wrote plenty of bangers after that as well. Anyone trying to act like they were never good is doing a huge cope.
