you took away the candy from my mouth
and filled it up with really old saltines
avoided ever being figured out
by changing my reality to dreams

All I want to do now is play at the 40 Watt Club I'd just die of happiness

It's where Pylon got their start and it still exists

Faust is playing there next week. 10$ to see motherfucking FAUST

The prison of mirrors... we can't see,
Yet trapped we are... by its reflection,
It sees all fear and watches our downfall,
It will rip all lies and pride from the soul.

You are all... all that you hate,
Force fed memories, suffer humiliation,
Victim of darkness, of the inner hidden kind,
I am the eye within the gleam,
Shatter before a mirror that stares into (a shallow soul).

Poison yourself... revel in waste,
Poison yourself, in the name of evil... destroy yourself.

I will always be the reason to hate your self,
Mirrors... will oppress your mind,
And follow all... all that you hide,
Blind, step inside a subconscious warfare to guide the oblivious,
Mirrors of torture, unforgiving expose your sins,
Your suicide by the mirror's shattered blade.

heard this on the walking dead. emily kinney's character sings it a cappella and it was so beautiful it made a tear (of joy) run down from my eye

i recently discovered this song too. may have been the walking dead too? not sure how i got there. but anyway i was incredibly moved by it too, and like after one or two listens, when the song is still not entirely formed and gelled in your conciousness, i started noodling around with it on the guitar and wrote a song that at the time i thought would be a giant ripoff of it - but playing it now, it's probably different enough to be its own thing.

i should listen to more tom waits. i loved closing time but never really moved past that

people have tried to get me to listen to him over the years but my impression was always just ugly old man voice, like bruce springsteen smoked a billion cigarettes

then one day I was driving around exploring Colorado when my ex lived there and Heart of Saturday Night comes on the radio, and basically similar experience. I was just floored. downloaded the album and it's fucking unbelievable, although the jazzier stuff is harder for me to get. anyway listen to these if you don't know them

amazing performance

I never saw the east coast 'til I moved to the west
I never saw the moonlight until it shown off of your breast
I never saw your heart 'til someone tried to steal it away
I never saw your tears 'til they rolled down your face

sentimentality is a fucking disease that eats me inside
