The inherent problem for me is that, if I don't immediately look up a word when I first encounter it, I'm very quickly gonna forget that the way I'm pronouncing it in my head was just a guess, and then fast-forward to like a year later where I'm confidently and completely wrongly saying "diaspora" in front of a bunch of people

I'm supposed to and allowed to mispronounce foreign words!

They're foreign!

Some of the major differences being:

BC has created a lore of intellectualism around himself and his circle

There was an album named after the mistaken pronunciation, surely someone brought this to his attention in 23 years

He was recorded, and therefore someone should have stopped him and had him do a retake. I think no one knew.

Google is now a thing, and the extra preparedness is necessary when speaking in front of thousands

He won't learn from this, and I have the feeling this isn't his first time making the mistake

Still angry about the SAM HANE thing. For someone who goes on about his Irish roots he really fucked up with that one.

That's valid. But I think if you were going to name an album diaspora and knew you'd be on press tours for said album, you might make sure.

For the record, I don't care about Machina being wrong. Artistic license or whatever I guess. But the more recent ones seem more egregious. Maybe I'm just more critical of them.

There's other applications of this, too. Whenever some "expert" on TV or Youtube or whatever calls it "psycho-pathy" instead of "psychop-athy" when talking about psychopathy, you know they just picked some random psychologist to put on TV. Zero issue with others saying it wrong, it's an easy thing to get wrong. But no experts in psychopathy would get it wrong. (I am not calling myself an expert and am definitely not one, to be clear here)

But I mean that's a lot more effort than "hey i like how Machina reminds you of Machine which I sort of already used imagery for previously, and it also seems artsy, let's go with that." So maybe it's not the best analogy.

It's gotta be her that he's talking about there, right? That was a major highlight of that episode for me... something gnarly is afoot. Rare that somebody lasts THAT long in his inner circle - she showed up back in what, 2002? - thought she was in for the long haul at this point. Guess not.

I thought it might have been Paz, in light of the potentially unflattering recent interview. But I guess she wasn't trying to claim anything as her property, except a coloring book.

Linda Strawberry made her first appearance at the "last" show of the Smashing Pumpkins at the Metro, 2000/12/02:

BC: Wow, you’re like - don't be shy. This is - this is Linda Strawberry. She's very famous in Romania. Number one. Okay.
To Sheila (with Linda Strawberry and The Frogs)
BC: Linda Strawberry. Thank you to the Frogs.

In 2001 she was a member of the Djali Zwan project, delivering parts of the soundtrack for the movie Spun.

To be fair, everyone who left the Pumpkins circle has had an epic time of it.

James: Fire solo albums, A Perfect Circle (literally perfect?!)

Melissa: Fire solo albums.

Jimmy: Fire fusion recs, tech guru.

Ginger: Settled into happy family life.

Tommy Lee: Epic Netflix Baywatch.

D’Arcy: Awesome life.

Mike Byrne: Bearcubbin'! (That Bearcubbin'! album is better than anything SP since Oceania).

Nicole: Seems happy.

Vasily Kafanov: MeWithoutYou album covers. Still making fire art even though BC wants nothing to do with him.

Paz: Pixies epic.

Matt Sweeney: Cool guy.

Pajo: Used to be in Slint and nobody can take that away from him.

Tila Tequila: Interesting political views.

Lisa Harrington: Co-wrote that LEGO Movie song that was probably more successful than anything SP since Tonight.

Random dilapidated Chicago sewage tower: Famous now.

Brad Wilk:

So I feel that, her being big in Romania and all, LS will have no problem going onto brighter and brighter things. I expect some fire solo recs.

I just want the Machina reissue man, then I can flee from this site once and for all (we are), never to return.

I'm sure that was all artistic and/or platonic and Billy didn't 'ava adore' her multiple times.

He already talked about her interview in another podcast so time wise it doesn’t work
