Default Muzzle on Conan 1997 upgrade

Not a true full blown remaster or anything since I don't have access to a real tape of this (btw send me your tapes), but I recently discovered this episode is circulating on the Conan trader circuit, so I got a pretty nice looking digital copy of it, touched up the color and sound and came up with this. Apologies if it's redundant due to some sort of video project I'm not aware of

Here's a bit the band filmed the same day that aired later, that someone else has uploaded

Great Job! It's impossible not to be moved by a '97 Muzzle.
Thanks for sharing

Obviously band chemistry is on fire, but watching it all I could think was how awful the dual Gibsons sound on Mellon Collie songs. You need that combo of Billy on the Fender and James on the Gibson for those songs.

Thanks! Had never seen the interview part. Billy looks like he's off to rob a mansion afterwards with the all black & gloves combo

Yeah their Strat+Gibson signature sound was just perfect.
I think around this time Billy was at his most vulnerable, coming from divorce, his mother’s passing and Jimmy’s departure. And it resulted in really emotional performances.

First: I love when Billy is playing and suddenly takes his hand off the guitar to touch his heart. Classic 90s Corgan move.

Second: That bit they did in the second video is an absolute classic. Thanks for sharing. Never saw that before.

1997 was a particularly intense time for James' haircuts, the festival tour that year had the same vibe

it's so bizarre seeing the golden era band, like, on a couch, with other more normal people

She passed away in dec ‘96, two months before the end of the tour. It’s a lot to process, it looks like they didn’t even postpone a show.

Yeah it was either 12/9/96 or 12/10. During the show, they talked about how the filmed it with a million dollar camera, leading many at the time to believe it was going to be used for a Mellon Collie tour release. Billy has mentioned on Instagram (and his old Facebook page) that he has the footage, but has never been able to look through it due to the memories attached. Someone did point out, however, that you can see clips of it in the alternate performance video they made for "Untitled."

And yeah, I remember reading an interview with him at the time where he said when the funeral occurred a week or so later, he flew down for it and immediately went back on the road for the next show. Actually, I think the only shows the 1988-2000 lineup ever cancelled on their own were the shows after Melvoin's death.

Were they on good terms? It must have been hard not to be around in the final weeks.
