@MTV week, March 9, 2000, widescreen
Had a tape of this laying around and decided to do something with it. Because of the bizarre “cyber” theme of this appearance the video was surrounded by a bunch of “cyber” garbage and that’s what all the versions I’ve seen of these videos has. I cropped all that out and what was left was a proper 16:9 frame. Not incredible. But better?

Cool to remember back to watching that shit on TV back in the day, but man, I never really liked the live Machina guitar sound then, and I don't really like it now.

Fun fact: Dave Grohl was there that day - I think he was dating Melissa at that point.
I met him there, he was nice. |

I know some of you shit heads piss on Melissa's tone but I fucking love it. It pushes Crogan and she is the only SP bassist to push Jim's tempo, which I love as well. Fuck pocket drummers.

Spot on, 100%. Corgan is a moron to chose Jack Bates over xMaDMx. Seriously...... disprove that argument,you can’t.

here's the the remainder from where OPs video cuts off. billy called me on stage and i played his guitar.
i wasn't even supposed to be in the studio. i didn't have an invite. i heard about the performance and decided to head to NYC and just wait in line, see what would happen. someone in line had a plus 1 so i got in because their friend couldn't make it. after it ended, i was asked to stay along with the others who were invited on stage. there was a Q&A afterward with all of us and SP. it was briefly on MTV.com as a RealVideo stream. i remember seeing it in 2000, but i'm pretty sure it's lost to the MTV archives now. i've since found the original URL for the stream on the wayback machine, alas, it doesn't work. it was an amazing experience and, ironically, it wasn't the last time just showing up (and a little luck) worked in my favor. i was able to attend letterman, smashbash, storytellers, and the final show. i mean, i followed SP, Zwan, and BC a lot so it's not like i was an unfamiliar face to the band/crew/other fans. however, i definitely felt unwelcome among the cliques i'd see at just about every show. i think some of those fans hated that i was there, like it made them less special or some dumb shit. they sure acted that way. *♀️ anyway, i do have a lot stories, but mostly i just keep them to myself in real life because billy has become so embarrassing. it sucks that these experiences, so integral and important to my childhood and early adult life, have become so tarnished. whatever, it was cool at the time. |

Oh shit, hi. This was taped off the initial east coast broadcast, so maybe they let it ride out on the west coast? I can’t remember. Either way I was actually just thinking about you when I was uploading this because I totally remember you getting up there. So I must have seen it somewhere. I just convinced myself it must have been another performance. I remember you getting online shortly afterwards and being like “I was that kid. I was trying to play Cherub Rock.” In any event, I’m glad you found this thread.

so happy that a full recording of that finally surfaced a few years ago. still looking for a rip of an online exclusive Q&A with SP and fans after the show. it used to be on MTV.com (The Smashing Pumpkins pull kids on stage in the MTV studio From @MTV Week), but obviously, that RealVideo stream doesn't work anymore. probably lost forever... might be for the best though. |
