I totally missed you talking more about Happy Mondays. Basically I agree with you.

The first album is the best because of that Mancunian working class thug, ecstasy on the weekend energy. I feel like a boss listening to it, and it's rare I dig something like that.

PillsNthrills is also really fantastic but only the singles reach the heights of the first. It feels more drenched in MDMA as the title would suggest and you really understand where they get their reputation.

God's Cop is my favorite track on it. That riff is too good. And Kinky Afro is not only catchy as fuck but also probably has Shaun's best lyrics.

I don't see it. Production doesn't mesh well at all with their style

Happy Monday's didn't need a dark album, they just aren't that type of band

You get dooowwwwnnn to Happy Mondays

I can never get enough of the different Hallelujah mixes. Especially the Club one.

I'd be in a club every night if this was what they were blasting

Mark E. Smith likes Shaun Ryder okay, but he says the people he knew who were into them entirely burned themselves out with E

Reading his autobiography and I had to stop and laugh for like thirty minutes when he talked about the origin of the cover for "Fall in a Hole" (something I always wondered about) their first live EP away from the UK that was taken from their first tour in Australia

http://image.mp3.zdn.vn/covers/d/3/d...1385657883.jpg

Apparently when trying to make a first impression on the Aussies who kind of thought they were a joke Marc Riley went around acting like big shit even though they only had two LP's under their belt at the time and Riley is by far the goofiest member The Fall have ever had.

Mark says he had to pull the guy off a dance floor and tell him to wait in the hotel room so he would stop embarrassing him.

As a result of the experience Mark picked that picture of goofy Marc Riley "parading himself like a swan to imaginary fans"

You're right actually

Well I mean the events that inspired Marky choosing that picture occurred on the Australia tour but they went on a subsequent New Zealand tour where they were much more receptive of them and I think that's where it was recorded.

Yeah, it's the last show of the tour which would have been in New Zealand

I had to google it, Marky doesn't make it clear which show it was taken from.

it is a great record. a buddy of mine (well i say that loosely, he's an old guy who i've drank beers with a few times, he's pretty derelict and lives in a warehouse) was at that show, and apparently a lot of the vocal banter wasn't even captured.

Billy could take a leaf (possibly more than one) from Mark E Smith's book - I mean talk about ploughing your own field and to hell with the fields next door, what the critics think, what his legacy is etc.. I've met Brix a few times and she talks with such respect about what a completely pure and focused artist he was/is - Mark E Smith IS his creative output/career in away that very few artists have the courage or ability to be.

It's really true. Him and Nick Cave have a similar way of looking at their role as an artist as just another job and that's why they're able to produce so much at a constant rate. No matter what they get up every weekday morning and put on their suits go into the office or studio and start writing/recording because that's just their job.
I think it has to do with them coming at music from an almost authors angle.

They're professionals.

Also Marky talks about how very early he was presented the choice between making music that would be popular and making the type of music he would like to listen to, knowing full well that most people weren't going to get it, he chose the latter.

Nick Cave...yes. Robert Smith was talking in awestruck tones about NC's work ethic in an interview recently, kind of just saying 'I don't know how he does it'...

I've never heard anything like that about her. She's the only woman that made Marky release a heartbreak album

I mean, Marky talks with a disdain for the upper class world she's apart of and her artsy friends and their temporary time in the suburbs but never says a bad word about her specifically.

Thirty days, 30 albums: how I fell in love with the Fall

This year marked the 35th anniversary of the Fall’s debut, Live at the Witch Trials. Before 2014 was out, one intrepid journalist and Fall virgin resolved to listen to their entire discography in a bid to convert to Mark E Smith’s febrile faith. Here’s his journey...

"Far from getting sick of them, by the middle of the month the Fall were all I could talk about, read about, practically think about. I almost certainly bored everyone who knows me to tears."

I know this feel, they really are that type of band. They inspire obsession with the pure amount of depth there is in the material.
