Default Do the singles hold up for you?

you're on this forum - you've listened to BWBW and today and 1979 probably hundreds of times at this point. do they hold up as representations of the band to you? is everything that is great about the band showcased in those tracks? are they burned out to you yet?

Don't know about "is everything showcased..." but as far as if they hold-up as standalone songs and a solid gateway to the band?

Yes

and I'm saying this both in the sense of Rotten Apples still being a great compilation and the actual, multiple track CD single releases w/ the b-sides and whatnot all still being great

as far as I know they were one of the few US bands from that era that could actually compete w/ the big Brit bands of the time in terms of having albums-worth of great material in the form of b-sides & unreleased stuff, not to mention the fact that one of their absolute greatest tracks of all time was a non-album single

the dreamy octave riff songs definitely hold up the best...Cherub and 1979

Rhino too probably

the angsty stuff ala Zero idk I do like the various balls to the wall live versions

I could do with BWBW being left of the setlists for a good half decade, still a great song, but that one in particular comes off as something the band feels obligated to play.

Yeah Bullet with Butterfly Wings is the one that ran of steam most quickly for me.

Would rather hear Solara at this point.

I’m also over Ava Adore.

And even Tonite Tonite I could use a long break from, or a new arrangement or something.

1979 never seems to get old.

Seeing as the radio isn't really a thing anymore, it's not like I hear the singles that much more often than any of the other album tracks, so they don't really feel "overplayed" to me.

I've heard every single song, singles and otherwise, a million times. Still love 'em. It really makes no difference to me if they're hits or not; it's not like I'm listening to the radio constantly these days or anything.

Granted, paying to go see them live is another matter; I skipped the Green Day festival date when they came by earlier this year, which I haven't done since the reunion. Live, I do hope for some variety.
