doesn't help that billy tried to rope SY into the "if Jewel and Sheryl Crow are a girls (backed by all men) and can play Lilith fair. They should let us play since we had D'arcy. Makes you wonder if they'd let SY play even if Kim isn't the front(wo)man of the band - the industry is really sexist and we should do something about that."

yes billy, the music industry needs you to solve the sexism problems. you, a guy, can fix everything for all the women. how brave of you.

I read "Girl in a Band" this year and what I picked up on was: Kim was really into Kurt Cobain. She talks about him with reverent tones and said they had a special relationship and Kurt trusted her, etc. She was protective of him and didn't approve of Courtney dating him. Easy then to project on to Billy, the other guy in the situation, negative feeling she had towards Courtney motivated partly by repressed jealousy.

The book is most poignant when she talks about her family and upbringing, most uncomfortable when she goes on at length about Thurston cheating on her, and basically shallow when she goes through the band's career and gives her opinions on art and people in the scene.

Meanwhile Thurston's book is a 500 page name drop. At least hers was short and to the point!
