Spellbinding is pretty bad, that synth line from tape blasting out over Wembley was not enjoyable

just curious, what offbeat thing are you talking about?

I like it for what it is, a well crafted pumpkins style power pop song. I think as far as trying to write an obvious radio hit he nailed it with this one, even though it didn't really take off.

that section is in 5/4 and that's unusual for the pumpkins. it can be argued that it's weird and they tried too hard to be weird for whatever reason. But I like it

I honestly really really like "That's The Way (My Love Is)". That shoegazey vibe is awesome

Wanna point me/us towards the best version of it? Ya got me curious...

Good call on this one. Might not make my Top 5 - close - but this is the live version of that really gets me.

That fuzzy/dreamy guitar is really rad. Might be amplified in it's coolness by the echo in the room that they're in, but... it's great.

If just going by studio songs that an "average" person could find without having to go to live recordings (and even that may be stretching it since the Zeitgiest-era stuff is only on CD at this point), I'd say the following. I also say it with the caveat that I have not heard Zodeon, which people seem to enjoy.

-That's the Way

-Tarantula

-(Come On) Let's Go (this is probably the one that grew on me most. I pretty much completely ignored it when the album came out)

-Pomp and Circumstances (one of my controversial choices - the live version is even better - but I do genuienly like the studio version)

-Sunkissed

-A Song for a Son

-A Stitch in Time

-Tom, Tom

-Lightning Strikes

-Inkless

-Tiberius

-Drum + Fife

-Anti-Hero (another one I know people really seem to hate but I like)

-Marchin' On

-With Sympathy

-The Colour of Love

-Purple Blood

-Save Your Tears (possibly my favorite SP2 song)

-Minerva

-Beyond the Vale

-Moss

-Night Waves

-Space Age

-Springtimes

-Harmageddon

-Edin

-Pentagrams

-999

For live stuff, I'd add that caveat that I do not have a ton of familairity with the residency songs (other than the ones that got played down the line) or the Spirits in the Sky songs that did not get incorproated into Teargarden. There'd be the obvious: 99 Floors, Owata, Gossamer. From the residency songs, I really remember liking Mama and No Surrender.

Fuck it, here's every SP 2.0 song I can dig to some extent, either because I think it's good, or I can enjoy it because it's not necessarily good but catchy and to some degree memorable. Yes, I'm generous.

Gossamer (Top 5)
That's The Way (My Love is)
Neverlost (Top 5)
Ma Belle
Zeitgeist
G.L.O.W
99 Floors
No Surrender (Top 5)
Tom Tom (Top 5)
Panopticon (Top 5 probably)
Violet Rays
Oceania
Glissandra
Being Beige
Drum + Fife
Silvery Sometimes
Marchin' On
With Sympathy
The Colour Of Love
Cyr
Anno Satana
Birch Grove
Telegenix
Black Forest, Black Hills
The Hidden Sun
Atum
The Good In Goodbye
Embracer
Steps In Time
The Gold Mask
Avalanche (After the saccharine intro)
Space Age
Every Morning
To The Grays
Springtimes
Sojourner
The Canary Trainer
Pacer
Intergalactic
Magdalena

-Still digesting A Gory Lorry Day but I think it's safe to say that Edin, Pentagrams Sighommi and Goeth The Fall are up there.

Forgot how much I loved this song. Wish the Z version had a grungier feel. Less vocal layering and more guitar layering and its amongst the best stuff they've ever done. But yeah live Z as always, delivers

Zeigeist is so upsetting to me, because it's unambiguously Jimmy's best work (which is saying a lot), and this song is a masterpiece in that regard, but I feel like it's one of those things you had to hear live to really get. On the album there are distracting vocal layers and, um, avant garde guitar stuff going on, and I just wish some of that would go away so I could listen to Jimmy. Which of course was recorded in one take and that's just insane.

But yes, not to pile on Zeitgeist for the 5000th time - lots of good stuff going on in the song. Ironically the album could benefit from a remaster more than any other but Billy seems to have purged that era from his being

same for pomp and circumstance, a legitimately powerful song lyrically, great emotive solo, but every single production choice on the record sucked
