I put Cyr through Fakespot, and you won't believe what I found

This is pretty funny, Fakespot analyzes Amazon reviews for paid or bot-generated reviews. Cyr has 90 reviews and 4.5 stars so I was wondering if Sad Machines brigaded it. Looks like they did. Fakespot found the reviews to be "suspiciously positive" and gave it a D. They then readjusted its rating to 2 stars, which is pretty much in line with critical reviews.

Sad Machines and bots can hardly be distinguished, they both exhibit a high degree of deception.

I could imagine it probably doesn’t work well for music because of rabid fans.
Especially not for older music. Who would bother to review MCIS on Amazon.

It doesn't work in general. First, people not only review the product itself, but they also review the whole shopping experience (website, customer service, delivery, company etc), so you would need to know exactly what which review is about.

I use it all the time, it works pretty well. I don’t think you understand how it works. Find some shitty electronics accessories and you will see what I mean.

About 15 years ago, I used to browse new music on Amazon due to the rating system, and it was pretty reliable. Now I can't buy anything on there that doesn't break in a year despite having 5 stars

Metacritic or AOTY are more accurate I think. Metacritic has left out a few particularly scathing reviews though

The reviews are bound to be skewed positively because those who didn't buy Cyr because they didn't dig the prelistens on youtube are not goonna write a review. So the vast majority of reviewers are bound to write positive reviews. It would have been different before youtube and other platforms. People had very few possibilities to prelisten to an album. So they bought it only to realise it sucked and proceeded to write a negative review. This doesn't happen very often anymore. Only BC cultists post reviews these days.
